Hey guys...
I found a SOG Flash II. It was forgotten at a construction site and no one in the company laid claim to it, so it is now mine. It was heavily caked in drywall, rust, and assorted nasty.

I completely disassembled it, gave the blade a solvent bath then took a choreboy to it to clear the rust... used a bronze brush to clean up the grips, re-lubed the bushing and reassembled. The steel on this knife is absolutely fantastic and took an arm-shaving edge quickly, but I'm getting a lot of wobble out of the blade, folded or extended.

While looking for replacement washers, I came across a folding knife kit shop online, that had slightly thicker phosphorus bronze bushings that were "slicker than teflon" and added some thickness to clear up play in the blade. I also found stronger assisted blade springs - which I'm also considering as this blade is rather slow and clunky compared to my Kershaw.

Has anyone used these upgraded bushings, and would anyone suggest a stronger assist spring?

I have a little trepidation because this is the plastic SOG knife, not the aluminum... I'm slightly scared the bronze bushing and stronger spring will wear on the handle faster.

I hope you get some response because I have the same knife and there is jjust an annoying amount of wobble that bothers me too. I don't think I would go to a stronger spring because I don't know what the added impact celocity would do to the mechanism over time. We are talking millseconds in speed really so I'll stay with factory.
I love the knife. I have at least a dozen one-handers and assisted openers and the Flash II has been the only one I've carried since I got it for Xmas. I think it set an unofficial record for length of time 'till first sharpening.

I didn't want to shill a site I've never heard of, but there are some VERY cool things there, like build your own folder kits, etc... it's knifekits.com

I've not broken out the calipers yet to figure out what sizes I'll need, but these are the bushings http://www.knifekits.com/vcom/...7_88&products_id=495

I have bought and used many things from knifekits.com. Made many of their kits, parts, etc. Quality company.

After breaking out the calipers, it is quite frustrating to realize that they have NO PARTS to fit common folders, like my kershaw or SOG. The biggest I.D. supported by those bronze washers is .200, and the pivot post on my SOG is .24 (same as my Kershaw Blur).

Time to look elsewhere, maybe another sort of parts store will have washers to fit. I am going to get stronger springs, however.

I had the same problem with my Flash 1. Sent my Flash back to Sog and they fixed the knife and no charge and put a new factory edge on the blade. Sog has an absolutely incredible customer service department.
