I saw this in the Sebenza thread, but did not want to intrude on that thread.

Who owns a Spyderco Techno?

How do you like it?

What did you pay for it?

Would you buy it again?

Thank you.

I do own one. I bought it LNIB for $115. I don't hate it, don't love, kind of like it, never carry it. It just doesn't fit my hand all that well but honestly it's the ZT 0900 that kills the Techno for me. If you're looking at the Techno, look at the 0900. For me, it is the best of the small titanium frame locks I own, Sebenzas included. I carry one almost all the time and have a spare. One day I am going to do a video comparing small titanium frame lock knives.

I probably would not buy the Techno again but I also don't plan on selling it. I keep thinking I'll carry it one day.

The 0900 is on the bottom. The 0450 is also nice but I'd still pick the 0900 if I had to.

Thank you for your input and pics.

The sales guy at the knife store showed me the 0900 and said it is a better selling knife for them than the Techno, by a lot. He was very luke warm at best on the Techno, although he likes some of the other Spyderco knives.

$115.00? Based on what I have found, that sounds like a smokin' deal for a Techno.

How thick is the 0900 compared to the Techno.

I have not made a final decision, but I really like the Techno, based on the reviews and videos I have seen so far. I hope to get to handle one on Friday.

My calipers show thicknesses of:
Techno = 0.4565"
ZT 0900 = 0.5265"

My calipers show closed lengths of:
Techno = 3.4565"
ZT 0900 = 3.8855"

Length is the dimension where you will really notice the difference. The 0900 is much longer. It's still a small knife but the extra length makes it much more comfortable for me than the Techno. The 0900 also has KVT bearings and a steel lockbar face, both features which I like though honestly I'm growing tired of flippers. I have a lot of great ZTs but I'd like more non-flippers. Arguably, you're getting more for your money with the ZT than the Techno if you consider those features. The Techno does have a smooth action and solid lockup though.

Definitely handle everything you can before buying. Neither the Techno or 0900 are bad, they are both good knives. A lot of it will be personal preference. But out of about 200 knives, I consider the 0900 to be one of the best EDC blades I've got.

$115 was a great deal, especially for the condition. The guy had to sell several knives and I ended up getting a carbon fiber inlay small Insingo Sebenza from him for a great price too a few weeks later. That is one of my favorite knives.

I have Sebenzas, Benchmades, Spydercos and have had various customs over the years. I stopped collecting a while ago and pick up a production knife every now and then. I got a Techno when it first came out and it's seen more pocket time than anything over the last few years. It's just a great simple solid little knife.

The Techno is one of the top Spyderco designs. That being the said, I would also go ZT0900.

Can't go wrong though either way.

Steve,

I have had a Techno for a while now and really like it. When I say that I really like it though, I mostly mean due to its amazing fit and finish and overall aesthetics. It is a beautifully crafted little tank of a knife. The backspacer is a nice touch of color against the beautiful stonewashed titanium. It flies out with a positive "snick" and the lock up is awesome and smooth to disengage. The feel is nice, no sharp edges and really fits well in the hand. That said, I don't use it much as the blade is so thick it is not s great slicer for me. Others have said the opposite though. I like it more just to have in the collection, though I'm sure it would be a fine EDC.

Any decision on this one? I was curious as to what you ended up getting. I've got a Spyderco Burch Chubby on the way as a warranty replacement for a defective PPT. That one would be comparable to the Techno and ZT 0900 too.

They called Friday and said it had come in.

I was so excited as I drove to the shop, which is approx. 30 minutes away.

When I got there he handed me the box, I opened it and looked carefully. "I do not think this is a Techno", I said.

Sure enough, they sent a Sage 2, which is nice, but not what I wanted. They re-ordered the Techno, which was coming from a supplier out West. Due to the Holiday, I was told it would be here today.

I am not familiar with the Spyderco Burch Chubby.

While quite a different knife, I also may explore the Al Mar SLB

Thank you for the comparison, that is very well done.

Lets get the AL Mar SLB out if the way first. They had 2 at the shop in Newport, KY. Nice knife, just too small for what I was looking for. it is slightly larger than the Al Mar Cigar Cutter I have.

After handling both the 0900 and the Techno, I decided on the Techno. It just fit me a little better and I am not a huge fan of flippers.

This is my first Spyderco and I have to tell you, I love it.

My hands are large, not extra-large and this fits my right hand comfortably.

This is built like a brick shit house. In fact, if you need to cut through a brick shit house, this is the knife that can do it.

Mine arrived with the S30V blade and not the CTS HXP. Not a steel guru, so I do not know if this makes a difference or not.

The Techno is actually a little thinner than my Mini CQC7. This surprised me.

Perfectly centered blade and pretty significant lock-up. When it locks up, you know it. This blade is THICK!

I plan to carry this in place of my Mini CQC7 for the mean-time.

I will post pics, hopefully this weekend.

Thank you for all of the feedback to this thread.

If you are considering a Techno, I recommend trying before you buy, as it may not be the right Spyderco for you. But I am happy to report, I think it is the right one for me.

Good, I'm glad you got something you like. I didn't know the Techno came in S30V. I doubt any of us could tell the difference in practical use.

I love my 0900s and own many other flippers but I will admit that the novelty is wearing off of flippers for me. Specifically, I'd like to see the ZT 0900/0909/0450 with thumb studs and regular PB washers.

My Burch Chubby arrived today from Spyderco (bottom). It's really nice and I would recommend checking one out if anyone is looking for a small/medium titanium frame lock.

Here it is, after a couple weeks of EDC.

It fits my hand very well and I plan to keep it as my EDC for a long time.

Thanks again for all the pics and information.
