First time sword forger...more pics
My brother in laws brother is a apprentice black smith. We visited Arizona this weekend and he presented this to my Cousin.

He forged it at his home forge. It was just like the show forged in fire.

He used a car leaf spring as the billet and a RR spike for the hand guard.

It was his first and as they say "your weapon will kill"

That thing looks pretty close to a Smatchett!

Nice job!!!

I make bolos and parangs. We use them in the woods regularly for clearing trails, maintaining trails and butchering and ranch chores. Forging is a heck of a lot of fun. A while back my son-in-law and I forged a heavy wood-chopping bolo from a plowshare. His first involvement and he got to be the power hammer, using the ten pound maul two-handed while I used the 4 pound and held the work. He had a blast.

The assistance of a big lug to work a second hammer is the bee's knees when you need to move a lot of metal!! LOL.

Wow. and shiny too!

You look like you could wield that effectively.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Thanks for the pictures, what a monster. I have a collection of forged knives by Jimmy Fikes, a pioneer in forging. He used a springs, also, I always liked that sometimes there were imperfections.
