In the photo my Benchmade is propped up. Well thats because I had it clipped in my back pocket and sat down in a chair and the clip got caught on the back of the chair and bent up. I am sending it in to LifeSharp now to get it all tuned up and with a new clip. They arnt going to charge me for the new clip which is nice. Great CS! So I went and got a small bubblewrap package and tried to send it USPS Priority. Man, I thought I was going to get hauled off to jail. The lady asked me what was in the package and I told her a knife and her eyes opened wide. She said "You cant send it like this!" I was like, oooohhh crap. She gets on the intercom and calls for backup, backup arrives and they spend a few mins talking about me. Long story short, I just had to put it in a cardboard box. So note to anyone else who is sending in their benchmades, go ahead and put it in a small cardboard box!

I have never heard of such a regulation or rule. Is it true, or just something she whipped out of her ass?

From now on, you say machine parts.

The Life Sharp program is fantastic. I used it earlier this year from two of my Benchmades. Mailed out Saturday morning, back in my hands Thursday afternoon. Amazing service!

If it's a user(which I assume any knife you'd ever send in would be, how would a safe queen get messed up) then I'd just put a zip tie around it to ensure that it wouldn't have a chance of opening.

I'd assume the people at Benchmade probably have a knife they could use to open it. Smile

But if you declare your package machine parts, and then have to file a claim for lost mail, then what do you tell them - you guys lost my gun, give me a refund ? I imagine falsifying an insurance claim is a form of illegal fraud. ???

I never had a problem sending a knife back to BM or Spyderco. The USPS wants to make sure that its not a danger to their people if the blade comes out of the package. I just send them in the small cardboard box and secure the blade with a rubber band. I use cutlery instead of "knife".

That reminds me of the time I mailed some motor oil to a lab to have it analyzed. Both the clerks freaked out, and I calmly explained to them that it is perfectly legal to mail motor oil and that Blackstone Labs does the majority of their business through the mail and they even warns customers that the USPS may not know the rules. I was dressed nicely and appeared to know what I was talking about, so...

Thereafter the manager appeared with a blue binder full of pages of listings of things you cannot mail, which he studies closely, and lo and behold motor oil is not on the list.

They always ask me if there is anything liquid, perishable.... Does motor oil not count as a liquid?
