Depends on where you live. If there is a martial arts instructor that teaches any of the Filipino Martial Arts, that is always your best bet. The FMA are a blade based art, but also have empty hands applications. The thing that is really nice about FMA is that the knife, stick, sword, and empty hand techniques are all the same. For example, One of the drills, Hubud-Lubud, can be done with a knife, empty hand, etc. The movements are all the same.
If you are looking specifically for knife instruction and don't care so much about the empty hand and stick stuff, check out the Sayoc Kali guys. www.sayoc.com their motto is "All blade, all the time." |

+1 for FMA. A few classes of Kali will open your eyes. I felt like putting a bullet between the eyes of every Panda that wouldn't screw to save its species. I wanted to open the dump valves on oil tankers and smother all the French beaches I'd never see. I wanted to breathe smoke. |

Check with local ranges that have handgun classes. They may also offer edged weapon classes.

FMA are excellent and practical styles for edged weapons. the major ones are arnis, kali, and eskrima. i would also look into panandata, which is a system that translates well between open hand, edged weapons, and stick/baton.
