In a word, yes! I ordered this Randall #5 6" with six options (stainless steel blade, two lines of blade etching, nickel silver hilt, stag handle, wrist thong, and compass) on 06/09/2004, and it arrived last Monday.

That's a very nice knife no doubt. But, 4 YEARS!

Honestly, that's a long time in my book. I personally wouldn't wait that long for any product.

but, I'm a very impatient person when it comes to that type of thing. Once I decide I want a gun, knife, etc... I want it immediatly because if I don't get it I will change my mind.

Prayer of The Citadel

Give me a boy, Oh God, who is willing to learn the true value of honor, the necessity of perseverance and loyalty, and the meaningfulness of devotion to God and country. And I shall take this boy as does a blacksmith take a crude piece of metal, and place him over a forge whose liberating flame of education is fired by the bellows of strict military discipline. Into this ingot of a man I shall temper self-respect and self-discipline, fear of God and respect for mankind, appreciation of freedom and awareness of what sacrifices must be made to preserve freedom, and above all an insatiable desire for truth and honesty. And when all these things I have done, I shall brand my finished work with a ring of gold to let all of humanity know that I have given back to the world a ...Citadel Man.

I love my #5, 6". Mine has brass fittings and no compass, but does have a nice stag handle.

I love all of my Randalls, hell yeah it was worth the wait. Just order, get excited for a while and then forget about it. Then when Randall calls it's a nice surprise. The wait is now 5 years and between my father and I we have 5 knives pending.

Nice blade!

Ken/jhe888, I got my catalogue and order form this weekend. Do you use your Randall Knives or are they collectables. It seems that many put them away.

Thanks
Jeff

Some are users, some are collectors. I use my model 5, in particular. The others have been more keepers, some deliberately, some simply because they haven't been used, although they may be. I am not really a collector, in the sense that I buy knives primarily to save them.

I have 10 Randall Knives. I have used two of them (both Model 15). I really just use one of them now. Truth be told, it will withstand a lifetime of use, and I most likely won't ever use the other knives.

They are made to be used; very durable.

I think the willingness to use a Randall knife is a function of one's income. A new Randall knife in hand, is worth (at minimum) 1/3 more than its catalog price. With that in mind, do you want to take a $500+ knife to the field with you (and risk it being lost or stolen) when an $60-80 production knife would probably be sufficient? It is worth noting here that a Randall knife would outlast a mass produced knife, so maybe over time you would save with the Randall...

Beautiful knife Ken! Certainly worth the wait. 4 years is actually very good these days. It's not uncommon to wait the full duration + a couple extra months if they get behind in production.

Great choice with the stag and compass. I always liked the stag/compass handles and I may have to order one myself.

Off Topic... I wondering Ken, if you plan to get the new Nikon D700 when it's released. Do you think the full frame sensor would be a worthy upgrade?

Looks great ! Not sure about the green paracord. Perhaps a leather one of sorts to match the rest ? The paracord just seems totally outclassed.
