After years of sharpening my knives freehanded and I must admit that I suck at it. Im thinking of getting an Edge Pro sharpening system. Anyone have one? Thoughts? Im thinking of getting the next step up with the extra sharpening sticks (the $200 one). Thanks for any imput.

I have never used one, but they are thought to be the very best of all the sharpening fixtures. They are expensive.

The one I recommend most if the Spyderco Sharpmaker. It does a very good job, and is easy to use. It doesn't give you infinite control over the sharpening angle, though.

I like flat stones myself, but if they aren't working for you, the Edge Pro is thought to be the best.

I use an edge pro, mostly for my larger knives and kitchen blades. The learning curve is tame, and it really does work nicely, much better than the hours it takes to learn how to freehand or use the sharpmaker perfectly.

I've done a fair bit of research here and especially on some knife/cooking forums and came away thinking this was the answer for me without any doubt.

I'm hoping one is stuffed in my stocking this year.....

I bought one recently and am very happy with it. I tried the freehand route and the lansky system but the edge pro is by far the fastest and easiest way to get a extremely sharp blade.

I went with the electric Chef’s Choice 130. I had a Spyderco Sharpener, which does work pretty well, but I wanted something that could get my blades sharpened quicker and easier. I looked at the Edge Pro video and it didn’t seem that easy. It appeared you needed to know what degrees to use and had to do adjustments.

So far, the Chef’s Choice is working great! In fact, my friends and neighbors bring their knives aver when they need them sharpened.

Good luck with whatever you go with.

I've used an Edge-Pro "Apex" for about six months now. It's a great tool and I have no problem recommending it. However, it does take a bit of patience and learning to use correctly and is not as "fast" as I thought it would be. Of course I have absolutely ZERO knife sharpening skills and "free hand" I couldn't sharpen anything. So the Edge-Pro is a tremendous improvement as now my knives actually cut! Gerry
