I was thinking of getting a Strider folder for EDC. Just wondering a few things.
Are the AR's too thick to carry - or can one be carried okay in jeans?
Also, of the various folders, which feel the best in the hand? Or are the best for EDC?

Striders are a chunky well built knife. They are not my cup of tea, but many like them. I would get the Chris Reeve Sebenza or Umnumzaan before I spent money on a Strider. What blade length are you looking, how much do you want to spend, do want a hard use knife or a nice sharp slicer? I like Spyderco and Benchmade, they are tough to beat for the money.

I just picked up a Spyderco Stretch 2 with a 3.5" blade. The Stretch 2 is my new EDC, it is very thin for a larger knife and fits really nice in a pair of jeans.

Strider are knife-shaped prybars to me. To thick a blade to be good cutters. They are stout, build like a tank. But like a tank cant do precision driving, Striders usually cant do fine cutting work.

I stick with my Spiders ande Benchies, but thats just me...(a lot cheaper to)

BUT: Striders CS is topnotch (as Spydercos and Benchmades)

I would say the SMF or SnG is best as a EDC. No the blade is not too thick, just at the spine but its a full flat grind and its not too thick. Up against something like a hollow grind then yes it will seem thick but as a heavy duty utility knife, you need the extra thickness.

As the others said, if you are going to slice things then you would want a thinner blade like a spyderco.

Right now I have a Lone Wolf LOBO. I was looking at the T2/T3. I want something BIG and sturdy.
I like the LOBO, but want to switch out from time to time depending on use to a HD larger knife.
Kind of why I was eyeballing the Striders and the LW T3.
There are no Strider dealers around here, and I hate to buy a knife before holding it and seeing it in person and feeling the ergonomics or lack of.
I guess I am leaning more towards a (I hate to use the term) "tactical" EDC.

Had a GB, which is the tanto version of the AR. It's not too thick to carry, BUT, the SnG and SMF are better carry options in my book, unless you absolutely NEED the toughness and thickness that the AR/GB bring. It's been labeled by many to be a "folding fixed blade". It is a BIG knife tho. BTW, both SnG's that I have had have been cutting machines.

Side by side: GB and SnG

GB and SnG with 229r and full size Emerson Commander for comparison sake:

A Strider folder will cut well if, like any knife, you keep it sharp. I carry my SnG more often on hikes vs. daily carry.

I carry a Strider AR most of the time. The first night I carried it to work was really more for show-and-tell with co-workers, as a couple of them at my station are Strider fans. Well, it just so happened that a co-worker from a neighboring station was driving along when his patrol car was hit by a drunk driver. His driver's door was jammed, and the other door was against a line of shrubs. While the fire guys were trying to pry open his door, a paramedic pulled the windshield trim rubber loose, and I reached for my AR to start prying the windshield itself off the car. Right before I stuck the blade into the gap, they got the door open. Even though I didn't actually start prying, I am glad I had the capability of doing so, and I hate the idea of giving that up. BTW, my co-worker inside the car did not make it. Rest in Peace, Officer Cantu.

I do keep smaller blades, such as Victorinox SAKs and Spydercos, handy for actual cutting chores. The AR is reserved for emergencies that I hope will never happen.
