Is this why French President Emmanuel Macron wants to build a new European army?

As the youngest French leader since Napoleon watches his popularity sink ever-closer to single-digit territory, the French people, who are increasingly fed up with the endless stream of gaffes, scandals and poor policy choices are rapidly getting fed up. In the latest expression of public outrage to rock the republic, one person has died and more than 200 people were injured during protests that involved some 282,000 people flooding the streets throughout France according to the French interior ministry to protest Macron's controversial decision to hike fuel taxes.

According to RT, French police used tear gas to stop demonstrators on the Champs-Elysees. Beginning in the early hours of Saturday, tens of thousands of demonstrators took to the streets to express their grievances about the government's decision to raise taxes on fuel. The protesters blocked roads, disrupted traffic and blocked access to gas stations.

Police tried to contain the protest by cordoning off some roads in Paris, but the crush of people kept coming. "Gasoline prices never stop rising. It’s the straw that broke the camel’s back. Macron and his buddies just let… things go from bad to worse," one protester said.

At one point, more than 1,000 protesters pushed their way to the French president's palace chanting "Macron resign!" They were later dispersed with tear gas.

How big a hike are we talking about? It must have been a big one. Even the most blatant socialists in this country - or at least the smart ones - know to slowly infiltrate it. And he gets to do it unilaterally?

It's France. We've bailed them out of 2 World Wars and backed their excursion into Vietnam.

They have zero cred and the only reason they don't worry about speaking German anymore is they have nukes.

If I recall, France has tremendously high gas prices because a massive tax already -
Something like $3-4/gallon. So this isn’t new but it must be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.

It's worse than that. Gas is now $1.69/liter ($6.41/gallon). Link

In the meantime in London, thousands of protestors are blocking bridges demanding that the economy move to zero CO2 emissions by 2025. They should trade governments and make everybody happy.

Hardly.

The French soldiery are brave and resolute; however, their political masters are a gaggle of socialist wankers.

If you'd like to read about the courage of the individual soldier of the French Army in the 20th century, I have several books I'd be willing to share.

And if the history of the 20h century isn't your thing, since 2002, the French Army has personnel fighting alongside the US in Afghanistan and Iraq, more fighting ISIS alongside the Kurds in Iraq and Syria, taking the fight to the Islamofacists in Algeria, Chad, Mali, and the rest of Africa as part of Operation Barkhane, plus soldiers of the Légion étrangère (who I doubt will be challenged as to personal bravery) doing counter insurgency ops all over Africa.

Obviously you've only read books and not operated with and talked to others who have served with the French.

As always, there are solid individuals in any organization, but as a whole they are essentially worthless.

Nukes are the only thing which keep France free.

This is more reason we should stand strong with the 2A, This is want the Democrats here want. They want to control our lives and tell us when and what to eat and control the Prices of everything. Trump reduces tax and they all go mad.

I’d love to see Trump chiding Macron publicly over the gas tax so that the left and leftist controlled media either has to agree with him, or attack him as usual. It would be beautiful to watch them implode.

The privileged few, who do not have to pay for the gas that goes into the vehicles that ferry them around, do not care at all about fuel prices.

Working from memory of long ago here, but the last time we were in Germany the price of gasoline was around $4 a gallon. The gas pumps had a little sticker on them that said that a startingly high % was purely taxes. AIR it was about 75%.

The price of gasoline in Germany was always high, unless you had access to the US gas stations.

Typical commie tactics is to tax the hell out of everything and everybody, then use that tax money to enslave those being taxed to death.

I will echo this sentiment. I saw some very committed work from French paras while in Afghanistan.
As for the protesters, I see a striking juxtaposition to our antifa. The French are demanding less government intrusion in their economic well being. It is likely too late for them but I hold out hope. Maybe they can start to push back on the rampant socialism. Sadly, our antifa riot because someone's words hurt their feelings.
