I liked the way DJT had foreign correspondents engaged too. They were earnest and polite, and he answered them well. NBC, CBS, and PBS...I hope they took notes from those journalists.

Rat2306–That was really striking, wasn’t it?
Foreign correspondents addressed policy issues, US MSM “journalists” attacked Trump personally—also stupidly and redundantly.

Trump and Company owned that address.

Declaring a National Emergency was a great move to bypass the bureaucracy and get shit done through the private sector.

It will be interesting to see what the market closes at today. During the speech it was trending up quickly.

Yes, it was very striking. Dr. Brix and Dr. Fauci are also top drawer folks, and came across as such. Dang, I may volunteer to help set up drive thru tents at my closest Target and Walmart to help in the effort.

I missed the press conference (address?) unfortunately but like what I'm reading. Sounds like he put out the perfect message at the right tone.

Market soared towards the end closed above 2,000 for the day I think.

Up 1950 at closing bell, I was watching it live on CBS. About 9.5%.

<---- look under my screen name, I'm good on that front. Heck I'm good on any front for quite awhile. Started a month ago making sure I'm prepared for this virus or any other natural disasters that may happen in the future. Also got 3 month supply of medications and good first aid kits along with basic OTC medicine for headaches and colds. Feels nice to have all bases covered.

Honestly I should have had all that stuff in my basement years ago. This has been good motivation to be prepared.

I find this utterly appalling. They're supposed to be in school, the school systems for which I pay taxes, to feed their minds, not their bellies

Same here. Not only that, but people are actively rooting for schools to stay open, ensuring further spread of the disease among students who CAN afford to eat at home. Because poor kids. Yeah, that seems fair and logical. Roll Eyes

These students attend Elementary school in the poorest areas of their cities. Their situation is not their fault. Anyway, my daughter was informed this afternoon that her school is closed through March 27th. My daughter is suppose to self-quarantine for the time being.

Yeah, now that I've finally gotten to the range with my new 10mm, and am satisfied it's worth more investment, I'm having a hard time finding the variety of ammo I want in stock from a single source.

Oh well, this, too, shall pass.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/0...deaths-estimate.html

On the CDC's estimates before serious containment and mitigation strategies were started:

quote:

The C.D.C.’s scenarios were depicted in terms of percentages of the population. Translated into absolute numbers by independent experts using simple models of how viruses spread, the worst-case figures would be staggering if no actions were taken to slow transmission.

Between 160 million and 214 million people in the United States could be infected over the course of the epidemic, according to one projection. That could last months or even over a year, with infections concentrated in shorter periods, staggered across time in different communities, experts said. As many as 200,000 to 1.7 million people could die..

And, the calculations based on the C.D.C.’s scenarios suggested, 2.4 million to 21 million people in the United States could require hospitalization, potentially crushing the nation’s medical system, which has only about 925,000 staffed hospital beds. Fewer than a tenth of those are for people who are critically ill.

The assumptions fueling those scenarios are mitigated by the fact that cities, states, businesses and individuals are beginning to take steps to slow transmission, even if some are acting less aggressively than others. The C.D.C.-led effort is developing more sophisticated models showing how interventions might decrease the worst-case numbers, though their projections have not been made public.

On a non-government expert's projections:

quote:

Even severe flu seasons stress the nation’s hospitals to the point of setting up tents in parking lots and keeping people for days in emergency rooms. Coronavirus is likely to cause five to 10 times that burden of disease, said Dr. James Lawler, an infectious diseases specialist and public health expert at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Hospitals “need to start working now,” he said, “to get prepared to take care of a heck of a lot of people.”

Dr. Lawler recently presented his own “best guess” projections to American hospital and health system executives at a private webinar convened by the American Hospital Association. He estimated that some 96 million people in the United States would be infected. Five out of every hundred would need hospitalization, which would mean close to five million hospital admissions, nearly two million of those patients requiring intensive care and about half of those needing the support of ventilators.

Dr. Lawler’s calculations suggested 480,000 deaths, which he said was conservative. By contrast, about 20,000 to 50,000 people have died from flu-related illnesses this season, according to the C.D.C. Unlike with seasonal influenza, the entire population is thought to be susceptible to the new coronavirus.

On acting now:

quote:

A recent paper, cited by Dr. Fauci at a news briefing on Tuesday, concludes that the rapid and aggressive quarantine and social distancing measures applied by China in cities outside of the outbreak’s epicenter achieved success. “Most countries only attempt social distancing and hygiene interventions when widespread transmission is apparent. This gives the virus many weeks to spread,” the paper said, with the average number of people each new patient infects higher than if the measures were in place much earlier, even before the virus is detected in the community.

“By the time you have a death in the community, you have a lot of cases already,” said Dr. Mecher. “It’s giving you insight into where the epidemic was, not where it is, when you have something fast moving.” He added: “Think starlight. That light isn’t from now, it’s from however long it took to get here.”

"You can get a test. Anyone can get a test." -Trump

A distant friend of my wife, came down with flu like symptoms. Went to a walk in clinic. They gave her a flu test, which came back negative. Doctor was alarmed with her symptoms, sent her to the ER to get tested for Coronavirus. The ER gave her a chest xray, which looked very bad. Said yeah, she needs the coronavirus test. Except they dont do the test at that hospital. Sent her with a doctors order to Quest labs. Quest labs asked her for travel history. Since she hasn't been to Europe or China, they said she does not qualify for the test and will not get one.

My wifes friends said there were 12 people in the ER that all, at the same time, went to quest labs for the same coronavirus test, all with the same symptoms. NONE of them were offered the test because none of them have traveled!!!

12 people, in the span of 2 hours in the same hospital, all with the same symptoms, all who had negative flu test, and all were denied a test.

This occurred in Florida. What an absolute cluster fuck.

Its out there folks. We are being lied to. The 1500 number that the CDC gives us is no better than Chinese propaganda. The governor of Ohio said that his experts believe that his state has at least 100,000 cases, just in Ohio, based on what they are seeing in the hospitals currently.

Well, bubba, either the labs out there get the message, or we’re fucked. I think they’ll get the message especially when people are driving into the Wal-Mart parking lot and getting a free test without going to the ED. That’s the plan!
Worked in South Korea, we learned from them.

It seems toilet paper is not the only hot commodity. Surge in gun sales as well, apparently many first time buyers have realized the value of protecting their T.P.

I read somewhere else that some of these first time buyers were perplexed by the 10 day waiting period in CA and the overall difficulty in obtaining a firearm for defense, they want it now, goddamn it Smile
