BOSTON (AP) -- Baseball Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski has been hospitalized for tests after experiencing chest pains.
A spokesman for Yastrzemski, Dick Gordon, says the former Red Sox star went to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston this morning. When asked if it was a potentially serious situation, Gordon said: "Any time you are in the hospital, it's got to be pretty serious." The Red Sox issued a statement saying Yastrzesmki was undergoing evaluation and testing, and that no further information was available. The 68-year-old Yastrzemski was baseball's last player to win the Triple Crown -- leading the league in batting average, homers and RBIs. He did that in 1967. Yastrzemski -- who's known affectionately to Red Sox fans as "Yaz" -- played his entire career in Boston. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1989.
