anyone been? My wife and I are looking at a trip for our 10th anniversary next March and I've heard a lot about HI. Pretty set on it as our destination and now looking for accommodations... trying to decide between hotel or condo/house. I like some of the remote cottages but really want to experience the quaint Dunmore Town and eat good food and have some night life.

I'm gonna vote for the funniest frog with the loudest croak on the highest log.

I have friends who live in central Eleuthera near Governor's Harbour. When we visit, we've driven up north and took the water taxi over to Harbour Island. (The same you'll need to take if you fly into ELH.) Very nice up there, but as with anywhere in the Family Islands, it can be a bit expensive. Harbour Island is pretty much exclusively golf carts.

I'm not too familiar with the hotel options up there. But I would expect Trip Advisor can give you some good information. Link

If you are looking for a cottage to stay at in central Eleuthera ... Check this out. Driving distance is about 35 or 40 miles? Not a long drive. Renting a car can be expensive, but for us it is worth it to be able to drive the full stretch of the island to check stuff out.

Note - If you stay on Harbour Island, I think you can get just about anywhere in a golf cart in about seven minutes.

Evil exists. You can not negotiate with, bribe or placate evil. You're not going to be able to have it sit down with Dr. Phil for an anger management session either.

thanks... we've looked into a few cottages near gregory town, as well. we were thinking of maybe dividing up the trip into more remote/eco for a few nights, then into town for a few nights but I think we've decided to simplify a bit. I love the small size and the lack of vehicular traffic, and we've been hitting Trip Advisor and other sites hard trying to find the right spot for our budget.

That place I link to is owned by friends. It's high up and near the GBH airport. Very private beach area. They have two houses on the property and one is for rental. GREAT hosts if you're looking in that area.

The wife and I visited Harbour Island for a weekend about 10 years ago. A family member had their wedding there.

We stayed at the Landing when we were there.

It was a nice stay there and we liked our room better than some of the hotel rooms other family members booked.

I was a nice weekend. A little pricey. There were only a few cars on the Island then. Everyone rented golf/club cars to ride around the island. The island is small enough that the golf cars worked great.

We flew into North Eleuthera and took a water taxi to the island.

Very laid back on the island, relaxing, and beautiful beaches.

thanks Van. The Landing is our most likely hotel right now, waiting to hear back on Ocean View, but they don't book past 6 months out. Seems strange. I think it might end up being out of our budget anyways.

reviews for The Landing mention it being pretty noisy... what'd you think?

When we were there they had the main bulding and another building next to it. We were in the building next to the main building. 2nd floor very quiet.

After seeing the bikini, I was wondering why would one bother in that scenario. Nothing like the warm Caribbean sun on a bare body!!
