I think that may have been the waste gate opening on the turbo, but I am no expert.

That would be the bypass valve. I can't remember if you put an intake or filter on yet but that will make it up even more. Even without a tune when I put the performance filter on our Escape in stock form it reall woke up the bypass valve.
If you really want it to sound good see if anyone makes an aftermarket blow off valve. Serves the same purpose as the bypass valve in relieving pressure but a blow off valve relives the pressure to the atmosphere making a much more pleasurable sound to the bypass valve which recirculates the pressure to the system.

It's a slight quick whistle just like a person would do, so it isn't bad.

I don't think it did that with the factory tune.

There are a couple different surges in power at a couple different RPMs.
The car accelerates fast to around 3000RPM, then a different quicker rate between 3 and 4 thousand and at 4K, it flat out moves.

I was talking today with SC Performance who put the thermostat on and they were telling me that factory tunes are so conservative, the feel of powerband hardly changes throughout the RPMs with some exceptions.

Let's hope I am getting this right.

However, on performance oriented tunes, most times there are differing rates of acceleration at different RPMs. They said you cannot just super advance the timing as the computer will go into limp mode, so there are stages where the timing gets advanced,

Something like that.

In other words, what I feel with the tune is normal, and SC Performance has put several Livernois tunes on Ford ecoboost engines.

Maybe a better way for me to describe this is that the factory tune acceleration was very consistent beginning to end.
The performance tune accelerates quickly, hits 3K, gets even quicker, gets to 4K and that part is quicker still.
At all stages of the acceleration, I'm quicker than stock.

I am happy for you that it turned out so good.
Usually when I do something like that, it ends up that the extra effort, time and money are not worth the outcome.

Yes, pretty rare that everything worked out here.
But I ain't complaining.

I will say though that I did a lot of research on the tune and the tires before buying them.

Anyone heard of StopTech brakes?

I was looking at race BMWs today at SC Performance expecting to see Brembos and Wilwoods, but instead, I saw StopTechs.

Yes, we did a performance truck build in 2012. GMC pickup with an LSX454 engine. 626 horsepower on the engine dyno. Stoptech brakes were used on it, no problems ever. IMO you would be good to go with their product.

The brakes I have seem pretty good.

However, The Great Escape would look even better with red brake calipers.

Now that I have a tune, I suspect youngest daughter will nix that idea.
Maybe not though, unless I am deliberately opening The Great Escape up when there is little traffic, I typically drive like an old lady with lots of following distance.

Here is something interesting.

When I put the first set of tunes on the calibrator, I had not installed the cooler thermostat.
I put on the 91 octane tune which is premium here in Colorado.
I like the tune.

Then I had the cooler thermostat installed and emailed Anthony at Livernois to ask a question and mentioned I had the the cooler thermostat on The Great Escape.
I received a reply email from Anthony and he said to update my tuner again because the tunes change depending on which thermostat I am running.

It took only moments for the four new tunes to load to the tuner and a few minutes more to program The Great Escape.
I haven't driven it yet but it did load successfully and the car started right up.

All these computer tune ups amaze me.

Used to be that you needed to change engine parts to increase horsepower.

So true.
Buy the tuner and tunes, hook it up and do it yourself.

No, more RPM's= more Boost= more Power on a turbo or supercharged vehicle......so the more RPM's it makes the more horsepower it makes......naturally aspirated engines make more power the higher you rev them (to a point).

I'm no expert for sure.

I tried the updated tune for the cooler thermostat and I couldn't feel the difference between it and the first Livernois tune.
However, the exhaust sound changed a lot.
It's throatier and slightly more loud when jumping on it.

My guess is that the difference between the two Livernois tunes is one or two tenths of a second here and there.
That's something I cannot "feel".

Most likely..... 2 tenths is a lot, usually about 20 HP. The other thing is you make less HP the more above sea level you go. I'd try to go to a drag strip with it, just to see where it's at......

Just a plug (I have no financial interest there) to say these guys are really, really good to deal with. I have a friend who races and they work closely with him, he with them. When I, ahem, clipped a curb at a underpass loop on my M3 and ripped the RF suspension apart they helped me out did a great job of putting it back to like new and for a much more reasonable rate than BMW would have bent me over for.

When I picked it up, took a tour of the shop - they had some really cool projects there at the time!

If you decide to go that direction, shoot me a message and I can give you the owners name and cell number. He is a true enthusiast and you'll probably spend as much time discussing the snake as the Great Escape.

Still happy with the tires? Seriously considering a set for our Flex.
Had any rain driving with them yet?

Nothing wet yet.
For dry though, they are great.

OK, I will try emailing your source.

A problem has arisen with the tune that was unforeseen:
I am driving too much, having way too much fun and am sore from smiling.
The Great Escape does get after it.

Much is made of the saying that there is no replacement for displacement.

After seeing what this tune does, maybe there is replacement for displacement for acceleration.
That said though, a 4 banger is rather anemic for deceleration like downshifting to slow the car down.
With regard to deceleration, it's true, there is no replacement for displacement.
