I had to quit working has a mechanic in Sept of last year due to pretty serious health problems.I have an unfixable form of spinal arthritis.My back is 80 percent seized up,my hips are totally seized along with my neck.It is pretty hard to do work as a mechanic if you cant bend over hardly at all or move your neck without severe pain.I toughed it out the last 2 years at a very limited ability to
flag any hours,as I was on commision.
I had been a mechanic since I was 23,and had no other real skills that would even pay close to what I made,even if I was healthy.By Sept of last year ,I finally had to stop working due to my health.I was lucky to work for a good company that knew what was going on with me,and let me collect unemployment.I got the ball rolling for S.S disability has soon as I quit work,as they wouldnt even talk to me as long as I was employed.I was getting enough unemployment to make my house payment and keep the lights on,but not much else.I lost my truck and most of my guns during the wait on getting ok'ed for disability.After I started to sell of stuff ,I learned that liquidating possessions,would at most buy a week or 2.I was within 2 weeks of running out of unemployment when I got ok,ed for for disability.I have been told I was very lucky,as most people are turned down the first time they try to get disability.
I will never get rich,but I get enough to pay bills.
