Sorry to hear about that Rolan. My BIL has been out of work for some time in Fla. He's a Heavy Equipment Operator. It's times like these that I'm glad I chose the second career I did. Hang in there brother.

Dang dude.....sorry to hear this.

I'll say a prayer for you though I don't know how much weight it'll carry from me.

If you was in some part of the construction trades my own company might be able to come up with some work.

While we have slowed down down due the housing slump, we are still chugging along at a respectable pace.

I work telecom for BNSF railway.

If you're willing to relocate, you might want to drop over on their website and see what we have. I know we've retired one PM, another's getting ready to go due to disablility and seems the railroad's really got a thing for hiring outside the company right now.

I feel for you Rolan. I've been there, although not quite as long. My dad went over a year a while back. His unemployment completely ran out, he had to move into his sister's house and was having to find a different person every month to borrow enough money from to keep his car from being repossessed. It got bad. He finally found a job and got everyone paid back and the car paid off. It does get better. And if you get desperate enough to have the big gun sale, you know you have a ton of potential customers right here to give you a quick influx of cash. I'll pray for you that it doesn't get that far. You will regret it. I sold a P228 to make rent once when unemployed and I've never forgiven myself.

Regret: It hurts to admit when you’ve made mistakes, but when they’re big enough, the pain only lasts a second.

Material posessions are just "things". All "things" can be replaced. Love and friendship is the only thing that can't be "bought" (only rented).

IF I have to sell off guns they can be replaced.

To make a long story short I'll give a similar situation that has currently happened with me.

I finally landed what I thought was an awesome job after graduating college. It took me over a year to get this job and I was making good money with benefits working 30-40 hours a week.

Now the company is losing profits so they have cut me back to 10-20 hours a week and no more benefits. It is a small corporation, just a local outfit.

However, the bills still come in at a regular rate but the money is less than half of what I was making two months ago.

I recently sold my Mossberg 500 HD shotgun and a M92 Yugo krink kit to stay ahead. I am looking for something else, but times are hard in the job search right now. I also sold a set of golf clubs that has helped.

I substitute taught last year, and I am going to continue til I can find something else. However, from the days you sub from now til Sept. 13th, you get paid for on Oct. 1st.

So, it will be awhile before I start to get comfortable again. Lucky for me I only have to care for myself and no wife or kids.

Good luck Rolan, hope everything works out. And I agree...guns can be bought back later on.

Rolan, if misery loves company, then I'll commensurate with you. I Lost my IT job last November. It sucks. My suggestion is to sign up with a contracting agency and pick up some extra cash, the money is not bad, but no benefits. Hope something happens for you soon.

Well Shit. I had two prospects and they have both fallen through today. I got a rejection letter from Beretta after the third interview, and was told that they weren't going to fill the position with Cisco that I interviewed for.

So now I'm back to square one.

Don't give up. Rejection is no fun, but it's part of the process. Ask me how I know.

Keep plugging away. Something will happen.

Yup, it's just disheartening. I'm at my part time job now. Hard to focus, but I need to get ready to run the Ladies League.

However, I think I may treat myself to a few shots of tequila tonight.

Buying that Cougar didn't help out at all eh? Wink

I feel your pain brother.... I've been job hunting for 14 months.

I've been doing some freelance stuff and tapping into savings to make up the difference.

I'm lucky that my better half is working hard and willing to put up with me being picky in my job hunt.

The market for TV broadcast engineering managers is small to begin with and to make it worse I'm not (yet) willing to take a job that requires 2nd or 3rd shift or tons of travel. Been there, done that and didn't really enjoy it.

I'm on the fence about starting my own business doing corporate and commercial video work (teleconferencing, local tv ads etc).

Shoot me an email if you need to bitch or want a resume review or anything that I can do.

Turns out that the guy who sold me the Cougar also promised it to another guy. Since I was buying it because the price was so good, I just sold it to him for what I paid for it.

Rolan, just keep pushing those resumes out the door and be prompt on the followups. Things have a way of turning around when you least expect them to move. Prayers sent on your behalf.

oh, make sure you have sufficient ice for that tequila, huh? Wink

I could go on for hours , but the silver lining out of all that was:

1) You learn who your true friends are - it really came down to a short list but those people I know I can truly count on. It's the hardest of trials that tests people's character.

2) Large gifts of money won't really help you, so don't accept the debt or the kind offers.

3) Family & good health become more important than ever - be grateful you don't have a loved one dying of cancer or the like.

4) You can celebrate Christmas without store bought gifts or trees.

5) It all works out for the best in the end, and you'll be amazed at what you learned, how you've grown, and a myriad of other attributes.

You'll be fine, even if you lose all your material things. Most likely you'll be far better than fine. Sometimes God moves us in directions we wouldn't have chosen for ourselves.

Keep the faith my friend. That's often the hardest part right now but it's also the most important - keep the faith that it will all work out better than you can imagine right now. I wouldn't recommend this for all but the hardiest of folks. Wink

If you want to talk, post here and we can share contact info.

I'm in a similar situation Rolan and I let go of all my toys now and the ammo is starting to go. Although I miss it all like hell, I'm beginning to find other outlets to fill the "void". Also, I absolutely agree with Signified. You really start to learn who your friends really are. I really started to appreciate beyond words, my family and their constant support and encouragement. It's funny, when I lost the means to support my material hobbies/lifestyle I found that I started investing more in myself in other ways. Education, physical fitness etc. Like Signified said before, I think sometimes God sees that we're not utilizing our full potential and moves us along in ways that we don't understand at first. My prayers are with you. May your mind and spirit be free because your burdens are with the Lord. Take care.
