Yup, on Feb. 15 I was laid off from my Telcom job. Today is August 15th and I'm still looking.

Yes, I do have a part-time "fun job" that gets me about 20 hours a week, but that's mice nuts compared to what I was making. Also, the Georgia Department of Labor makes me claim that and takes it out of my piddly $320 unemployment check.

It's going to get serious here soon. I'm not into my 401k yet, but the big gun sell-off is coming if I don't get something in the next few weeks.

Please think good thoughts for me and keep me in your prayers (to the deity of your choice).

BTW, I'm a sales Engineer / Techncial Account Manager / Deployment/Project Manager and Product Manager. I've got 14 years experience in Telcom, 20 years in high tech.

Rolan, I'll keep prayers going for you. A good friend of mine here in Ohio is a I.T. security guy, very sharp, Gulf War (1) Army vet, and he is down to about 3 weeks of his severance pay. I thank God often that I have a steady job, and sometimes I even forgo bitching about it when I realize how fortunate I am! Good luck!

Don't give up!

It's situations like yours that scare me. I'm about to start a break in service & my eligibility doesn't open up again until just before Christmas; one of the WORST times to be looking for testing positions.

Luckily I have a crappy fallback "career" & if necessary I can get a security job at a tribal casino. I'd probably end up as a supervisor in about 3 months.

The roommate keeps hounding me to buy a house. Roll Eyes Would you want a mortgage if you weren't sure where your next paycheck was coming from... or if you'd have one coming at all?

Good luck Rolan!

I just read a report in CIO magazine that many tech jobs are drying up right now.

It's bizarre because while the PA Tech Job market is not what it used to be, it's still very healthy compared to many other cities/states.

Is relocation an option? something to think about.

regardless good luck in your search!

Sorry to hear that Rolan. I once went 2.5 years. Hurt like hell - lost everything of any material value. Home, cars, toys, everything. The only gun I owned at the time was a gift from my father; ammo too.

I could go on for hours , but the silver lining out of all that was:

1) You learn who your true friends are - it really came down to a short list but those people I know I can truly count on. It's the hardest of trials that tests people's character.

2) Large gifts of money won't really help you, so don't accept the debt or the kind offers.

3) Family & good health become more important than ever - be grateful you don't have a loved one dying of cancer or the like.

4) You can celebrate Christmas without store bought gifts or trees.

5) It all works out for the best in the end, and you'll be amazed at what you learned, how you've grown, and a myriad of other attributes.

You'll be fine, even if you lose all your material things. Most likely you'll be far better than fine. Sometimes God moves us in directions we wouldn't have chosen for ourselves.

Keep the faith my friend. That's often the hardest part right now but it's also the most important - keep the faith that it will all work out better than you can imagine right now. I wouldn't recommend this for all but the hardiest of folks. Wink

If you want to talk, post here and we can share contact info.

Good luck, brother.

I am in stressful job morphing/changing mode myself, so I know it isn't pleasant.

I can complain about that freakshow with the best of them, then I read something like this and realize how nice it is not to have to worry about getting laid off or downsized unless I screw up. Criminals won't stop doing stupid stuff in a bad economy, they do more stupid stuff.

Good luck Rolan. I hope you find something soon.

BTW, you know unemployment benefits were recently extended by 13 weeks, right? Hopefully that will help.

I know how you are feeling. I lost my position the end of March. I was able to pick up a 2 month consultant engagement that ends at the end of the month.

I had to stop all of my unemployment, will have to see if it will start back up. If it doesn't it will get tight fast here too.

I am pulling for you.

Yeah, It can't hurt. No the Seattle thing didn't work out. I've still got irons in the fire, but it can't come soon enough for me!

Another week or so and I'm going to apply at the quicktrip (gas station). That will at least keep the wolves away from the door.

Back when the .com era fell, I went one year before I found another job.
The ex-wife left me....

And got to the final straws....

Then the light shined!

Prayers sent, and I bet when things turn around, it will be twice as good!

Also good luck being sent your way....
