It seems my VW is now fully broken in and starting to get great gas mileage. This is what the VW app currently shows for my remaining range on the current tank:

Not bad at all!

Yeah, but does it take 91 octane? Smile

How far did it read, when it was full?

40721 miles till empty?
What size tank is that?
Maybe you could move that thing into hurricane areas and self off some of your reserve?

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

When i was 18 I worked at a Goodyear Tire Store. There was a mechanic who I worked with from W VA, who had led a colorful life growing up that included running 'shine. He had some great stories.

His next door neighbor had a Volkswagen. This was sometime in the 60s. His neighbor talked a lot about the good mileage his VW got. Dick (the mechanic's name) started sneaking over to his neighbor's driveway and adding gasoline to the VW's tank.

The neighbor was beside himself, bragging about the mileage the VW was producing. "I'm getting 45...50 mpg!"

Then Dick started siphoning some gas out of the tank.

"I don't understand," he said. "I was getting 50 miles-a-gallon, now I'm getting 15, 16!"

So far in my GTI, I've only been able to hit 39mpg on my 22 mile drive to work. That's (yours) impressive though Smile

I'd expect that out of an illegal TDI, but a GTI? Fuckin' sweet! Was kicking around the idea of getting a mk7 GTI, this might tip the scales. Manual or DSG?

Your car probably came out of the factory using a prototype carburetor design that they bought and squashed from commercial production.

You can probably turn it in in exchange for a new car every year for the rest of your life.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

I heard a similar story years ago, when Volkswagons first became popular and known for their gas mileage. In this version, a man bought one and went on and on at work about the mileage he was getting. His co-workers got tired of it and decided to take turns sneaking out to the parking lot on break, putting 2-3 gallons into his tank every day. The man became even more ecstatic over the mileage he was getting. After two weeks they stopped with the expected results.

That's odd. A VW with an electrical gremlin. I do love the GTi though.
