What ever happened to owners rights??

And why in the hell would they want to stay in the apartment if...The tenants say the quality of some buildings is poor and rent should not be increased. Repairs have not been made, they said, and there were infestations of roaches and bedbugs.

The owner has the right to sell the property, and the tenant has the right to leave and look for another cheaper place. the tenant does NOT have the right to dictate what the landlord can do with THEIR property.

They were not evicted, they refused to sign a new lease and pay the higher rent the market demands, so now they have no lease and need to move.

IIRC NY and SFO they use rent control to keep this from happening because landlords would sell off buildings with low rent income and the new owner would jack the rent 4 or 5 times, people were being evicted right and left. You couldn't simply jack someones rent in a rent controlled building to current market rates, you had to wait until they left or died.

I wouldn't doubt if the guy does speak English, but speaking only Spanish for the "interview" helps give him the appearance of the poor mistreated immigrant by the man....

And 25 years, never become a citizen, perhaps pedro had no clue about the process, who knows, but it really sounds poor on his part.

Maybe the bleeding hearts in the Twin Cities area will help him move his family to Little Mogadishu.
