Wisconsin company to implant microchips in its employees in August

By Jade Scipioni Published July 24, 2017

A Wisconsin tech company says they are about to become the first business in the U.S. to offer microchip implants to its employees.

Three Square Market (32M), a River Falls-based software design company, says starting August 1st, it will be offering microchips to all their employees. The chips will be implanted underneath the skin between the thumb and forefinger, which will allow employees to pay for food and drinks in the company’s break room, open security doors, and login into their computers without any special cards—or passwords.

Eventually, this technology will become standardized allowing you to use this as your passport, public transit, all purchasing opportunities, etc.," Todd Westby, 32M CEO said in a company press release.

The technology the company is using is called RFID or (Radio-Frequency Identification) that uses electromagnetic fields to identify electronically-stored information. The chips will also use near-field communications (NFC), the same type of technology that is used in most contactless credit cards and mobile payments. Westby says these microchips have already become very popular in many European markets around the world and they want to be ahead of the curb in bringing it to the U.S.

"We see chip technology as the next evolution in payment systems, much like micro markets have steadily replaced vending machines. As a leader in micro market technology, it is important that 32M continues leading the way with advancements such as chip implants," Westby said.

Each chip costs about $300 and Westby says that more than fifty employees are expected to partake in the new program next week. However, he does stress that the program is optional for those who wish to opt out.

Not to be vulgar, but I think if people were told the chips would be stuck up their ass, you'd still get takers, because, y'know, all the cool kids do it.

I remember Digital Angel from several years ago. IIRC, a Spanish nightclub offered it to club patrons for ID. IIRC, there was a special entrance, adding to the allure of being tagged. Wonder if that is still used.

It stands to reason that the first to offer this would be a tech company, so they'll get a lot of takers.

Maybe the title is only half-joking in reference to the related section in the bible but, while it may provide the ability, I don't think this is the beginning yet.

To set up the first coming, Alexander the Great had to conquer the vast region after which the Romans came in. To usher in the mark of the beast, there would have to be a very compelling event that would justify requiring everyone to be chipped just so they can buy and sell. On the other hand, who would have thunk that people would pay to have government listening devices inside their homes and on their person?

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Meh. The government has been putting them things in mandatory flu shots for years.

Of course, they don't tell you that, but they're in there.

This stuff has been around for a long time. Not sure why its making news.

They have been chipping pets for the last 13 to 15 years. Same with livestock.

But I do agree, this stuff does freak me out. Those who believe in the Bible know whats coming with this tech. Its only a matter of time.

First you have to define 'The Beast' and there are clues to that.

There was a company in Sweden a couple years ago that started doing this to their employees so they don't have to carry key cards. Just food for thought.

This and a cashless society, and you truly would have to have the mark or "chip" to buy or sell. Bad things always start out slow and get people acclimated to them.

Another instance in which we allow technology to take away our privacy, and our identity as human beings.

I would hesitate to guess what the response would be from prison inmates. I am sure it would be a resounding "NO". The average prison inmate is likely more aware of privacy and issues of freedom than an employee of a tech company who thinks it might "be cool".

Wonder when the company makes it mandatory to have a chip installed? No chip in there, no work in here........
