Let's try this again...…

Saturday I ran down to Bowling Green to make a Facebook friend an IRL friend. I also took the opportunity to hit the Corvette museum. Now I am NOT a car guy. I just know what "cool" looks like and for the most part, Corvettes are cool. But it was educational.

For example, I learned NOT TO BUILD A MUSEUM NEAR A CAVE SYSTEM!!!

I had completely forgotten about the sinkhole disaster, and was amazed that any of those 'Vettes were restored. Still, several one-of-a-kind cars were (as you can see) wiped out.

I also learned that engineers have a sense of humor.

"Honey, where is my make-up case? It's not back here with the other luggage."

"I put it in the frunk, dear."

Not to offend anyone here, but Corvette owners are kinda crazy. I feel like I somehow infiltrated a cult. If you stood admiring one too long, someone would come up and say "I have a 2015 C7 and a 1990 C4, what about you?"

"I have a 2005 Jeep LJ."

That usually made them back off. One guy sheepishly admitted that he was "between Corvettes". LOL

I did get a raffle ticket for a black 2020. If I win I'll hit one of you deep-pocketed guys up to buy it from me. LOL Heck, the 25% the IRS will almost equal the purchase price of the last new car I had!!! The 2020 is pretty hot, but IMHO, it's not very Corvette-ish. Reminds me of a McLaren more than anything.

All in all, a very cool day.

I had a 2003 Z06 that had a few mods. Damn that was a fun car to drive.

Would like to get a C6 Z06 with the Z07 package when the situation in life is right again for it. With a young child, a sports car isn’t the priority in life for now.

They had one meme...I think it was the "Blue Devil" after it was pulled out of the hole. Apparently it was in good shape, started up, and they drove it out of the 'cone'.

Meme said (paraphrased) "Pulled out of sinkhole.....still runs better than a Ford."

I went over there last year, and thought the crushed cars were the most interesting part. I couldn't care less about cars in general, but that was interesting, as was how they went about getting them out and filling in the gap, and stabilizing the building.

The cars on display are just as they were pulled out of the ground, still full of dirt.

Some vette guys are nerds. I've seen guys pull the wheels and clean the inner fender before a show or cruise in. I cover mine in the garage sometimes just because of all the dust out there but it doesn't get washed all that often. Way more fun to drive than to clean. BTW love the Euro look of the 2020's but I'm a roadster guy.

You might as well have said:"I've been neutered." The look returned, will still be the same, from a 'vette owner. Big Grin

(One of my dear cousins has owned 9, and almost bought another in November. So I have seen that exchange between him and other guys, many times.

I am an ex-Corvette owner. One of my old sergeants just bought a 2020 and loves it.
When I travel the Seney Stretch I still feel the need to Corvette.
But they look odd in the snow.

There are some out there. One of the guys I talked to had pics of one out on the Tail of the Dragon. If I recall, he followed the guy (see, I told ya!! Crazy!!!) to a restaurant and talked with him. Guy was some sort of QA manager.

I started with a 78 Pace Car, then a 67 roadster (427/Tri-power) and an 86 Coupe. Now own a 2011 Grand Sport Coupe (7000 miles!). And, yes, I'm also one of the "anal" ones! LOL

I had a 06 C6 a lot of fun, but full time RVing does not make a good combination with a Corvette. So off it went to someone who could use it. But when I drove it to MO from Sacramento on its get acquainted trip I got 32.8 mpg until I reached Kansas City rush hour. I do miss it at times but the Rubicon is more practical.
