I hope they find the crew safe. I am praying for a miracle for them and for their families.

I too hope the crew is found safe, but the very idea of a country like Argentina even attempting to run submarine operations is absurd.

No more absurd than a good chunk of this list. And the Argentinians have a decent naval tradition. If they have the means (though that is the economic issue), why not. The US sub service wasn't born fully formed, we just had a head start, a couple of world wars and a really big check book.

Here's hoping they are found or report in with mechanical problems.

I just saw a pic of the sub. What's the crinkly dented or divot look of the conning tower?

Its actually some kinda rubery type tiles that are glued to the hull and all over to minimize noise..

At this time, Navy is saying all offers to assist in SAR are on stan-by but one of a NASA P3 plane that is currently visiting my country headed for an antartic campaign. Also our Coast Guard offer sas put on hold. No further news.

Search has covered 15% of the area.

Argentina has a LONG naval history. They operated several dreadnoughts and battleships pre WWII. They had an operational carrier capability long before China and the USSR. They went toe to toe againat the Brits in the Faulklands. . .

I pray the crew is safe, but it doesn't look promising.

Horrible to lose a sub. Prayers for all the submariners and their families. I hope they find the crew safe.

Why? DE boats are perfect for a coastal defense and picket warning system. The cost is low compared to large surface ships or aviation.

This does not look good at all. Hopefully the sub is safe and just lost communications or something.

Periodically Argentina has shown itself to be militarily ambitious. Back in the Reagan era, the 1980's I believe, (it may been earlier) it was accused of attempting to build or possibly even having built one or more nuclear weapons. When the big, likely nuclear, bang went off in the south Atlantic near S. Africa one of the speculated candidates for its sourcing was Argentina.

Right now I wish we really had any of that power you speak of.

What I do not understand is that when a sub is lost, Foreign navies do not allow any help from other, more experienced governments. Minutes or hours count if there is damage, and the governments usually wait until the sub crew is almost certainly dead before they accept help.

Not making any sense down here. The Navy is acting like is business as usual and have sent 4 ships that I hope won't need to be rescued later. Not using the assets of the Coast Guard and holding on all the other volunteered hands more apt for the job. Guess this one will go either to the bottom or be found by friendly satellites.

Although I've been out of the loop for some time, we have the capability to help with the replacement vehicles for DSRV Mystic and Avalon which were Decomissioned.

And they have an economy that makes feeding their people a daily challenge. The past is the past but the current reality cannot and should not be ignored.

There's no arguing that our economy is shit and not even the Gods can male sense of it but your statement regarding the country's ability to feed its people is awfuly wrong. What has always kept us afloat - pardon the pun - is that this country is rich in most resources. Governments will keep on stealing and missusing our money without ever hitting rock bottom - pardon yet another pun.

Seems you'd be moving the DSRV closer now if there was any chance or intention of rescuing the sub.
