Simply “fearing for one’s life” isn’t the standard or bar. As I was discussing with someone just yesterday, there must be objectively reasonable reasons for the basis of that fear that justify acting as he did with deadly force. And again, I don’t have enough information to know whether there were such reasons in this incident, and I am therefore not offering any opinions on the question.

It was a tragedy no matter what the justification or lack thereof. We should all hope, though, that the jury’s verdict is also based on objectively reasonable grounds, and not because someone dislikes the “government’s” immigration policies or because they don’t believe Somalis should be police officers.

In his closing argument Monday, Noor's attorney Thomas Plunkett called Ruszczyk Damond's death "the perfect storm" of events that happened in milliseconds.

Former Minneapolis police officer Mohamed Noor has been found guilty of third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in the fatal shooting of Justine Ruszczyk Damond.

He was acquitted of second-degree murder. Noor was immediately handcuffed and taken into custody. Sentencing is scheduled for 9 a.m. June 7.

He faces between 10-15 years in prison for the third-degree murder charge and 3 1/2 to nearly 5 years for the manslaughter charge.

Now wait for all the rest of information on Noor (field training logs/reports/observations) to come out during discovery in a civil suit.

I've never even heard of Third-degree Murder, or really Second-degree Manslaughter (I'm guessing it is like Involuntary Manslaughter).

All we have out on the West Coast is 1st and 2nd degree Murder. If the crime doesn't fit meet those elements, it drops to Manslaughter (either voluntary or involuntary)

So this asshole only has to serve ten to fifteen for killing a person. Probably less than that for “good time served”. What bullshit. He belongs behind bars five times as long, if not more.

Would you rather that he had been acquitted? Be thankful that he was convicted.
