Just because you don't show what you're family history tells you it should, that doesn't disprove your family history.

You only get 50% of your DNA from each parent. I'm supposed to be 1/64th Cherokee. Ancestry didn't show any Native American markers. After 6 generations it would have been a miracle for a NA marker to show up.

I think the reason these tests are showing strong evidence of family histories at all is we have up until recently married within our community in this country. Germans married Germans, Poles married Poles, Korean married Korean. 100 years from now who knows what someone taking a DNA test will show.

Video below explains better than I about losing markers over generations.

When I was a kid, our family tradition held that my great, great, great grandmother was a full-blooded Cherokee Indian. As an adult when some of our more genealogically-inclinded family members put together a detailed family tree for us, there were no Cherokee or other native Americans to be found. The family member who did indeed marry a Cherokee was from a distant branch of the family, so we no longer claim it. One of my daughters did the DNA test last year and confirmed the genealogy findings.

The point is that family tradition isn't always perfect, Senator Warren, but once you discover the truth, don't keep stretching it. Now's the time: put up or shut up.

IIRC she once claimed that others used her Native American claim to their advantage, but she never used the claim to her advantage.

But that isn't her only dishonesty. Seems she practiced law in Mass, with Mass based clients, without a proper license to do so. And she claimed published works of others to be her own work.

Don’t American aboriginal tribes have standards about how much appropriate ancestry one must have to be recognized as one of theirs and be eligible for the benefits thereof? I would think that would be the minimum necessary to (legitimately) claim a privilege under some quota system.

Some do, but they rely on family trees traditionally. This DNA stuff is new and the tribes are going to have to face the grey areas they come across as they come up.

My grandmother (mother' mother) always said her own grandmother was Cherokee. She got into exploring Indian culture, etc., for many years on that basis.

My 23andme results just came back. I am 100% northwest european. 31% British and Irish, 22% Scansinavian, etc.

I read some genetic research of the US South that said it is very common in the American South for people to claim some Cherokee in the family, but that testing shows it usually is false. Instead it comes back as everything from smaller local native American tribes, to Jewish, or hispanic, or even southern Europe...basically any darker complexion mixed in was called Cherokee as that was somehow more acceptable or made more sense.

I guess that happened in my family. Digging back, it seems like a French or creole mix from Louisiana was the source of our "Cherokee" myth.

We did the DNA test and it did get rid of one of my great grandmother's status as a Cherokee and moved it to Creek instead. I guess Cherokee must be cooler.

Sam Houston was a naturalized Cherokee. He was married for awhile to a woman and they lived in the tribal community. His name was "Co-lo-neh"--The Raven. He was found of firewater during this period, earning another nickname--Oo-tse-tee Ar-dee-tah-skee, or "Big Drunk."

I wonder what his descendants DNA would be like.

One thing is for certain, she is a liar. Lest we forget,
She was even low down enough to plagiarize the oh so politically correct, "POW WOW CHOW" cookbook.

She needs to run a gauntlet of Ckerokee Nation women. The only true thing about her is being a commie bitch.

Massachusetts Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren on Sunday ruled out a 2020 presidential run and taking a DNA test to prove Native American ancestry -- an issue that has nagged her Senate campaigns and would almost certainly create problems in a White House bid.

“I’m not running for president,” Warren, a champion of the Democratic Party’s progressive wing, told “Fox News Sunday.”

When asked Sunday whether she’d agree to calls for genetic testing to resolve the heritage controversy, Warren launched into a family history, as purportedly told by her parents and grandparents, before saying, “It’s a part of who I am, and no one’s ever going to take that away.”

Warren, who is seeking a second Senate term this year, has been accused of saying she is of Native American heritage to help in securing jobs, including one as a Harvard law professor.

She has acknowledged identifying as a minority, but denies using such status to help advance her career.

President Trump has repeatedly called Warren, a Wall Street critic and potential White House rival, “Pocahontas,” a notable American Indian woman in colonial history, to highlight the controversy.

“Let me tell you a little bit about my family,” Warren said Sunday. “My mom and dad were born and raised out in Oklahoma, and my daddy was in his teens when he fell in love with my mother.

“She was a beautiful girl who played the piano. And he was head over heels in love with her and wanted to marry her. And his family was bitterly opposed to that because she was part Native American.

“And eventually my parents eloped and they survived the Great Depression, they survived The Dust Bowl. They went through a lot of hard times. They raised three boys, my older brothers, all of whom went off to the military.

"They raised me. They knocked around and it was tough but they hung together. They hung together for 63 years. I know who I am because of what my mother and my father told me, what my grandmother and my grandfather told me, what all my aunts and uncles told me and my brothers.”

I'd give really, really good odds that she has already had a test done and knows the results show she has NO native American DNA. Very easy to get the sample and then have a staffer send it in to get tested. If it showed she had native American DNA it would have been broadcast far and wide on every 'news' outlet available.

There is no way she would still leave this hanging if she had even a shred of native American DNA in her body.

Hoisted by your own petard, you phony. Anyone who is paying attention knows that the reason you are now saying that you won't run is because you know you'd have to take the test, and because you will not, President Trump and all your detractors would savage you if you put your hat into the ring.

You've painted yourself into a corner and there you shall remain.

It's not that hard to get a DNA sample if you try diligently (hey, I watch Forensic Files). It would be great if James O'Keefe managed to establish that the sample was definitely from Fauxcahontas, and then tested 0 for Native American. The ridicule would drive her right out of politics.

How about someone else from her maternal side ?? Surely , they're not all wide-eyed liberals ??

If her maternal relatives can't spit Indian DNA....odds are that she can't either !

The down side of her taking a DNA test might be if it showed even 1% Native American, she could loudly proclaim that she has Native American ancestry, and she has been vindicated.....
