DEMs still trying to obstruct judicial appointments

http://www.breitbart.com/big-g...nominees-blue-slips/

Democrats are trying to resurrect a way to block President Trump’s judicial nominees with “blue slips” as the Senate Judiciary Committee prepares for a hearing Wednesday on the nomination of Ryan Bounds to be a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
Bounds is a federal prosecutor who clerked for Judge Diarmuid O’Scannlain on the Ninth Circuit, a highly respected Ronald Reagan appointee, who took senior status after the 2016 election to semi-retire. In 2017, President Trump nominated Bounds to fill O’Scannlain’s seat on the San Francisco-based court.

This seat is traditionally regarded as an Oregon seat, but both of Oregon’s senators now oppose Bounds after previously supporting him. Sens. Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley, both Democrats, are refusing to turn in their “blue slips,” a blue piece of paper in which home-state senators tell committee chairmen if they approve of the Judiciary Committee’s holding a hearing on a judicial nominee.

As judicial expert Ed Whelan points out at National Review, Wyden and Merkley have an advisory committee from which they choose their recommendations for the White House for federal judgeships in Oregon. The senators sent a letter to White House counsel Don McGahn naming four of their committee’s recommendations for a seat on the Ninth Circuit. One of those names is – you guessed it – Steven Bounds.

There are now eight vacancies on the oversized Ninth Circuit, which is roughly twice the size of the typical federal appellate court. Bounds is a conservative whom Oregon’s Democrat senators originally told the White House was one of their recommendations.

But now that Democrats have learned how conservative he is, they are trying to resurrect the blue slip process in a partisan obstruction tactic to block Trump’s nominees to the Ninth Circuit. Chairman Grassley is expected to hold firm to his commitment not to allow this unprecedented obstruction to prevent the Senate from confirming judicial picks.

So then what prevents Mr. McConnell (aside from the fact that he is void of a testicular sack) from proceeding with the Nuclear Option and just have Bounds' nomination carry with a simple majority vote?

As an aside, sdy, congrats on 11,000+!! Cool

That's what he's been doing (twice this year so far) and may do again in this case and others.

From the artist:

“There has been a crusade in this country led by a group that wishes to overturn the election and impeach President Trump. Robert Mueller leads a special council of at least 17 partisan Democrat attorneys who have yet to find a single piece of evidence against the President, yet they ignore the mounting verifiable evidence against Russian collusion with the DNC and the Clinton Foundation. The political bias and negligence of those who have lead the Department of Justice and the FBI is forthcoming. There comes a time when you have to take a stand, Expose the Truth!” http://jonmcnaughton.com/expos...signed-open-edition/

Is it Ryan Bounds or Steven Bounds?

What's going on with this porn star lawyer?

I find it suspect that he makes this "bombshell" announcement literally 1 hour after Trump scuttles the Iran deal, almost as if he was instructed to get that out of the new cycle. Mad

That’s what they do, simple majority, but getting there to have the vote takes hours of Senate time.

There has recently been a move to change the rules to reducecthe time from cloture to a vote from 30 hours of debate to 8 hours.

Ryan Bounds going thru Senate Judiciary Comm interview for nomination right now.

https://www.judiciary.senate.g.../09/2018/nominations

Grassley addressing blue slip policy. He says his policy is consistent w most previous Judiciary Comm chairs.

Grassley hammering DEMs.

edit: DEMs attacked Bounds hard. The Senate committee has a week to consider the nomination and whether to send it to the Senate floor for a vote.

Trump: Secretary of State Pompeo heading back from North Korea with 3 released prisoners

It is a sign of potential good will ahead of Trump's planned meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

President Donald Trump said Wednesday that three American prisoners released from North Korea were headed home, a sign of potential good will ahead of Trump's planned meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

In a tweet, Trump said, "the 3 wonderful gentlemen that everyone is looking so forward to meeting" were accompanying Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on his way back from a visit to North Korea.

The president then tweeted that Pompeo and the three men would arrive at Andrews Air Force Base at 2 a.m., and that he would greet them.

Pompeo had previously traveled to North Korea over Easter weekend, when he met with Kim.

The news of the release comes as U.S.-North Korea relations have reached a relatively constructive and warm phase. It marks a considerable de-escalation from last year, when Trump and Kim exchanged heated barbs that stoked fears about a possible nuclear conflict. The North also repeatedly tested missiles and threatened the U.S. territory of Guam in the Pacific Ocean.
A U.S. government handout photo released by White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders shows U.S. Central Intelligence (CIA) Director Mike Pompeo meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Pyongyang, North Korea in a photo that Sanders said was taken over Easter weekend 2018.

Trump revealed Tuesday that Pompeo was on his way to North Korea to further set the stage for the summit with Kim, spurring intense speculation that the new top U.S. diplomat would also secure the release of the three men.

As buzz built about their possible release, various media reports said that the American men — Kim Hak-Song, Kim Dong-Chul and Kim Sang-Duk, who is also known as Tony Kim — had been getting medical treatment. Recent reports said the men were moved from a labor camp to a hotel outside of the North Korean capital of Pyongyang, although the State Department could not confirm the stories' validity.

Trump said Wednesday that the released prisoners "seem to be in good health."

Tony Kim, an accounting professor who had been working at a university in Pyongyang, was detained in April 2017. Kim Hak-Song, who also worked at the university, was detailed in May 2017 for "hostile acts" against North Korea, while Kim Dong-Chul was sentenced in April 2016 to 10 years in prison with hard labor for charges of espionage and subversion.

South Korea hailed the release of the three U.S. prisoners as a development that would have a "positive effect" on the upcoming summit between Kim and Trump – and also called for the release of six South Korean prisoners to "reinforce reconciliation" efforts.

I was watching Fox when this was released. I wondered how this could be spon in a bad way. I switched to CNN and they were talking about how this would make it harder for the Americans in Iran to be set free. Simply amazing!

Anyway, he needs to do what no one else has, or can, show no shame. “Hey, I get these gold diggers bouncing off me all the time. Most I refuse, some I have paid to shut up, a few I’ve taken up, and paid them to leave and shut up.” He may have an even better explanation than that.

I agree he should own it. I felt the same about Clinton in the 1990s. Just admit it, say it is between he and his wife, everyone else can pound sand. It's wrong, but its not illegal. And there's a long list of Democrat Presidents that engaged in this behavior.

Trump floated the idea in a tweet of de-credentialing White House reporters. Oh please please please do it! Drudge responded that he feared this would lead to a licensing of reporters. I don't know exactly what that would mean, but it's not what Trump said, and it seems to me a very bad idea on the face of it.

However, those rude, obnoxious bastards have no right to be in the White House press room. They are there on the invitation of the president. If they refuse to act as impartial journalists, which is their critically important duty-- screw 'em. Let them stand out on the sidewalk on the other side of the White House fence. Give them megaphones with which they can yell their questions in the general direction of the Oval Office. Big Grin

What's wrong with a little common sense press regulation? After all, our founders never envisioned the modern day media in its current form.
