Repurpose is always a great idea.
Additionally, you have to ask yourself "How important (aka incriminating) is the data on there anyway?".
That will tell you how much effort you need to spend on destruction, erasing or repurposing.
Will someone go to unending lengths to fix a broken drive or spend hours or days trying to recover your data?
If it is THAT Classified then just destroy it otherwise use some common sense and not kill yourself.
