He was trying to shoot back, but quickly realized that was a loosing proposition. I just love the expression on his face. He goes from aggressive robber to "what happened?".

While the 1988 constitution declares that military polices are to be organized in military fashion (hierarchy & discipline), the so-called military polices (each one of the 27 states has its own) are only *uniformed* police, responsible for ostensive policing work (as opposed to “civillian polices”, which are responsible for criminal investigations).

So what in Brazil they call “military police”, we in North America simply call “beat cops”.

You are quite welcome, my friend.

She done good. She cut it a bit close with the woman and child (in pink vest) being near her point of aim, but a spine is a great momentum stopper apparently.

Here is a write up from another site, translated from Portuguese:

quote:
A military off duty police officer, who had gone to a Mother’s Day celebration at the school where her daughter is studying in Suzano , shot a suspect in front of the unit. According to the Military Police, the 21-year-old suspect was carrying a .38 caliber revolver and had already approached other mothers awaiting the opening of the gate, as well as having searched the school’s security to see if he was armed.

Still according to the PM, the police officer saw the move and heard a woman saying it was robbery. At this point, the police officer moved away, pulled out the gun and fired three times at the suspect.

Police also said that the suspect, who had already shot a shot that did not hit anyone, made a second shot, which failed. That was when the police officer approached the suspect. The suspect was rescued to the Santa Casa de Suzano, but it did not resist the injuries and it died.

The police officer is from the 4th Battalion of Special Police Actions, East Zone of the capital. The case was referred to the Suzano Central Police District.

The event was in front of the College Ferreira Master, private unit, which is in the neighborhood of Cruzeiro do Sul, Suzano. According to school officials, even after the commemoration of Mother’s Day was held and that, only after the end of the activities, the board will decide.

Even Snopes says it’s true, so you have to consider that.

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

DailyMail article. I liked this part:

“The policewoman quickly backs away out of the line of fire then goes over to the injured suspect who is rolling around on the ground in agony crying out for help. She kicks away his weapon before picking it up.”

I just love the way that all of a sudden the shooter and the shooteee are the only people around...even the little red car driver, who MUST have been a witness, evaporates...

I lived in Brazil for a while and know this, Police in Brazil are nearly useless for solving crimes unless they are at the actual crime scene. They really do shoot first and ask questions later. They never identify themselves as police until after they shoot. Sometimes when they are at a crime scene, they are the ones who are committing it!

I love it here!
