These showed up on a state highway corner, just out of tiny town, about 14 months ago.

Worst totem pole contest ever?
Alien craft landing structure ?
tree transplant gone horribly wrong ?

That is my guess also...the property owners may have set the poles for the barn/thingy and ran afoul of zoning or setback rules and said "screw it" and just left the poles in place...or something else came up causing them to abandon/postpone the construction...maybe a roadside business like a vegetable market...

Could also be the start of a gallows farm if assembly line hangings ever become vogue again Razz

Are there high power lines near by? They set up poles similar to that to restring them or if they switch from wood to metal poles.

I have seen the same thing east of the Riverside Casino. It is on state land, that is part of the flood plain for the Iowa River. The state has planted a bunch of trees (inside protective plastic tubes to keep the deer off) in the same field. Been watching it when I pass by to see what developed, but nothing beyond the poles spaced like what is in your picture. Thought about a pole barn also but this is a nature area, not even any tree cutting allowed. Maybe something to put up support for other plants?
