He will always be known as Maj Winchester (an outstanding role, thanks to him).

He was also on a really good episode of ALF (as a homeless stargazer/scientist) and had an outstanding role on Star Trek Next Gen (an old scientist from a planet with a mandatory euthanasia law).

We watched 3 episodes of MASH today waiting for dinner to cook. He was one of the giants in a Special cast of actors.

RIP, Major.

My favorite episode was the Christmas one, where radar had his mom (Maj. Winchesters mom) send one of his toboggan stocking hats to him...

That one has always stuck in my memory

My other favorite Christmas one was the one where he gave all his fine chocolates to the orphanage and they sold them for rice. Klinger later brought him food and let him know of the "family tradition".

My favorite was the "Letters" episode.

Charles' part is at 23:30. For some reason, what he says there has stuck with me all these years.

RIP Mr. Stiers. That's too bad. I enjoyed his acting.

Just a few days ago, on the apparent anniversary of the final episode of MASH, I found and read this article ('M*A*S*H' Finale, 35 Years Later: Untold Stories of One of TV's Most Important Shows). It was very nostalgic. We used to watch MASH religiously. It was IMO, one of the finer shows on TV.

This one as well as a few other episodes of M*A*S*H bring me to tears every time I see them.

I also liked him much much better than Burns.
