Massive traffic, heat, getting stuck around people for hours, then driving home in traffic, with a bunch of drunks on the road, no thanks. I just stay home and enjoy the day off.

What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

Meh...I never understood the need for them.

Even as a kid, I wondered was the attraction was to making noise?

My Dad blew off part of his thumb with an M80...idiot.

The larger professional ones are Ok I guess...but idiots just making noise...meh, drones.

Another vote for take em or leave them. I usually end up going to watch them but this year our daughter and granddaughter made plans with friends. The wife and I stayed home and we're just fine with that.

Our state is battling numerous forest fires. We don't need to encourage stupidity; It usually happens naturally.

This - until a couple of years ago.

Four years ago, the Mrs and I downsized. We moved to a house down the street from a fancy country club.

Turns out every year the country club has a big summer party for the members the weekend before the 4th of July, and the day is capped off with a huge fireworks display. Now we just walk to the end of our driveway, set out a couple of lawn chairs and enjoy a great show without having to leave home. I love it!! Razz

I agree. We love them. I find a parking garage nearby and we drive to the top, where we tailgate. We setup some games, cook some dogs and have fun then just enjoy the show.

I love em but don't love crowds as alot of other people bought up so I watch a pretty good show off my deck rather than go to a show.

I like looking at professional shows and some of the stuff the neighbor bring home but ever since I was a young boy I've been crazy for anything that blows up. I'm talking fire crackers and M-80's, silver salutes, quarter pounders, cherry bombs, etc. They must be able to do work! Geen apples, ant hills, wasp nests, fence posts, ground hog holes, rotten melons, coffee cans full of tomatoe worms. BOOM.

A couple years ago, the wife and I went on an impromptu road trip over the Fourth and ended up watching the fireworks while sitting on Bethany Beach, Delaware. The fireworks over the ocean were beautiful, but what set this apart was when the display was over.
As the crowd filed off the beach, everyone, and I mean everyone in the crowd, thousands of people, started singing the Star Spangled Banner. It brought tears to my eyes. Best Fourth of July ever for me.

Here's to the sunny slopes of long ago.

The last one I attended was 1976-07-04, on the Mall in DC. I watched for a few years from "the Point" at St. Elizabeths Hospital, when I worked there, from 1970-1973. The Point is at good elevation, overlooking Bolling Air Force Base, the Naval Air Station, and Anacostia River. It offers a perfect view of the Mall. Haven't been to one since, as generally the heat and crowds are too much for me. I believe smaller towns would do well to spend that money elsewhere.

Here we have Pops on the River playing patriotic music early in the evening followed by fire works in the local park. Large attendance. Free for all. Problem with heat and bugs.
