For July 4 rule out the baked beans, potato salad, fruit bowl, etc...
What goes great with pig on the 4th? Thanks for your thoughts.

These Creamy Buttermilk Cucumbers are a nice summer treat and would go well with BBQ Pork.

Cowboy potatoes

Cut up taters and drop them in a large baking pan, add a couple sticks of butter, add cut up bacon, onion of your choice and cover with american cheese slices. Cover with tin foil and bake at 350 for about 45 min. No need for exacts with this, it always comes out great. Some of my friends that love them call them heart attack potatoes

Or a good cole slaw with onion

Corn on the cob.

Maybe 35 years ago when I lived in the Chicago suburbs, part of our social life revolved around the "gang" of 500 or so BMW motorcycle riders in the area.

The president of the Chicago chapter of BMWMOA (BMW Motorcycle Owners of America) lived on a large lot in a rural area and her tradition was to have an open house for the July 4th weekend. There was plenty of room for tent camping, a swimming pool, just a nice setup for a holiday weekend.

Every evening there would be a cooking fire and dozens, maybe hundreds, of fresh picked corn would be roasted on the fire. Just dampened with water and placed on a grate, in their husks, then devoured in quantity. Good stuff!

Several varieties of hot sauces with varying degrees of heat, cucumber dill salad, whole sweet potatoes brushed with olive oil and fresh chopped garlic wrapped in foil-cook over coals, homemade apple pie.
Enjoy.
