I went to use my bill pay and a notice came up that I had to agree to a new Terms of Service Agreement before I could proceed.Pay close attention to item C. If I agree to this I can not use bill pay to pay for any firearms, ammunition,or firearm related purchase.I called the Virginia Credit Union to tell them of my displeasure. They will not change their policy and I have already begun withdrawing my funds from them. I would not use bill pay to pay any bills like this anyway, only utilities and such, but I will be damned if I am agreeing to this.

13 Prohibited Payments. The following types of payments are prohibited through the Service, and we have the right but not the obligation to monitor for, block, cancel and/or reverse such payments:

A Payments that violate any law, statute, ordinance or regulation; and

B Payments that violate the Acceptable Use terms in Section 14 of the General Terms below; and

C Payments related to: (1) tobacco products, (2) prescription drugs and devices; (3) narcotics, steroids, controlled substances or other products that present a risk to consumer safety; (4) drug paraphernalia; (5) ammunition, firearms, or firearm parts or related accessories; (6) weapons or knives regulated under applicable law; (7) goods or services that encourage, promote, facilitate or instruct others to engage in illegal activity; (8) goods or services that are sexually oriented; (9) goods or services that promote hate, violence, racial intolerance, or the financial exploitation of a crime; (10) goods or services that defame, abuse, harass or threaten others; (11) goods or services that include any language or images that are bigoted, hateful, racially offensive, vulgar, obscene, indecent or discourteous; (12) goods or services that advertise, sell to, or solicit others; or (13) goods or services that infringe or violate any copyright, trademark, right of publicity or privacy, or any other proprietary right under the laws of any jurisdiction; and

I'd be closing my account today.

There are way too many other good credit unions out there these days to be putting up with that BS!

SJW credit union person put that together, some committee of lunatics perhaps they want to corner the VA LGTGWHATDAFUQAMI"S business.

well that doesn't leave a lot of room for people you can pay, yep leave them and send a letter to the chairman of the board asking why he/she thinks they have any right to determine with whom or for what you purchase with your money that you allow them to hold and earn interest on.

Be sure to pass it on to as many VA people as you know.

They even restrict you from electronically paying for prescription drugs that you have a lawful prescription for absurd.

I have to leave it open until I can my get my direct deposit retirement check deposited to another financial institution. I have already withdrawn a large amount today and the account will be closed after the direct deposit issue is resolved.

Whole lot of value judgements being made in some of those items.

On the other hand, I used to be smart and I still can't figure out what some of them even mean.

The absolute best way to hurt a credit union, is to withdraw your funds and close your accounts. The number of account holders is just, if not more, important to them than how much money they have on deposit. They make their money on fees, and they calculate their potential income based on an algorithm of average fee per depositor. Be sure to let someone at least at branch management level or higher, know why you're closing all your accounts and moving to their competitor.

Of course...it doesn't hurt to spread publicly the name of the credit union who should be blacklisted, Virginia Credit Union. I'll throw another out there, Alaska USA.

Does this mean no condoms? Are they promoting unprotected sex? You should ask them about this.

Be sure to let them know WHY you are closing your account. I'd send a letter to the CU manager.

I'd ask the manager why they feel it's a good idea to discriminate against women by not allowing them to pay electronically for their birth control pills....

Given the list of prohibited items and activities, I would not waste time or energy complaining about it.

Just close out all accounts ASAP and let them proceed down the sewer.

How broad is that? The local Kroger?

I don't understand why they didn't just close the doors.

share that info with VCDL. Inclusion in one of their email alerts would really be productive.

This and the number off accounts are a % on the number of loans and other services besides deposits/balances and savings that return them dollars.

There total account holders is a Credit Union's "FICO". They need a big number for the rates they get in the market place.

That's insane. What is there left you can buy? Boxes of fluffy puppies and snuggly kittens?

And I've decided recently that I'm going to stop letting businesses know why I will no longer be patronizing them. If it's egregious enough to make me stop doing business with them, then I'll be damned if I'm going to give them a chance to staunch the bleeding and make them change their practices (which I doubt they would).

I will bring my time, money, and effort to those who appreciate it and don't meddle.

Insanity. Who do they think they are? And how do they expect to pull this off? Telling people what they can and cant buy, with their own money?

It possibly is from a service that they subscribe with to handle their transactions.

I worked for a big bank that sold 'time' to others to piggy back on our network as they were too small to have their own.

While I never worked at a credit union, I would guess this notice can from a big service company from parts unknown.
