What I meant was that trying to handle any amount of people on a forum would make me think that all the time.

And that I'm glad you and the mods still show up in spite of that.

Let me tell you my experience with this subject, over a period of twenty years and managing multiple web forums- in discussion forums such as this one, where the membership is overwhelmingly male, far more members object to having any sort of profanity censored or suppressed altogether, than object to the use of profanity in such forums. Far more.

Additionally, longtime members here may have seen me admonish members for using profanity excessively, so, there are definite limits. However, we're not prudes (not most of us, anyway). We're not fragile flowers that need delicate care. We're men, and when men get together, the language can get salty.

So, my policy is based upon years of experience managing venues such as this, and it's also in line with my personal beliefs and behavior. Anyone who can't stand seasoned dialogue can find plenty of bland (but oh so polite) banter, elsewhere.

One thing I can say to a certainty, and that's that those places won't even come close to how interesting is this forum.

If you run across it and it bothers you, click out of that thread. This place would be a bore if everybody thought alike and there were no conflicts. I've noticed that there are many, many poster's now that we do not hear from on a regular basis. The numbers must be way up. Civility works from both ends of the rope. One can choose to depend on everyone else to filter their verbiage or even not post at all. Or you can make the choice to you doing the filtering , you have the choice of participating, or hitting the ignore option. There are those here that go looking for threads to piss in / on, on a regular basis. But they are in the minority,. Heck, I might very well be the most ignored member on here. It's each individuals job to regulate what to offer and what they are willing to ingest.

Stop right there. Just because folks do not use or condone profanity does not automatically make them into "snowflakes". I may not be the most "macho" man on this board, but I am FAR from a "snowflake" (and I never use profanity and prefer not to see or hear it). Nevertheless, I do come to this forum and I frequently post here. (Maybe more ofteh than some like.)

The very same members who are "sniping" each other today might be the ones who come to each other's aid tomorrow.

flashguy, I can't speak for Q, but what I'm referring to doesn't necessarily involve profanity or vulgarity. I mean any kind of dispute whatsoever.

Yup, flashguy is way too quick to jump to assumption. I know what a snowflake acts like, and it has nothing to do with the lack of profanity/vulgarity.
