You will not likely see this on store shelves. Anything that reduces the replacement frequebcy of a consumable will net the store less revenue. From my experience, stores will blacklist it until they have no other choice.

you could be on to something there

You guys might want to think about a straight razor. I haven't bought a razor cartridge in 10 years. Plus you get a better shave.

and um... seriously, he's trying to sell people on the idea that it's *water* that makes the blade dull? how about super thin steel that always has to travel at the same angle through course beard hair? that's just funny. Sure the lube will help, some. but it's not the water that's making the blade dull.

Oh, and the patent isn't on some special lube, it's on a method for storing a razor in a cup filled with oil.
U.S. Patent 7,559,330

About 5+ years ago, I was going to buy some razors. The pack was $8, I said "F' that". The beard grows.

Store it in alcohol, mineral oil, whatever you want, or just keep them dry. Apparently the trick is not letting the blades oxidize between use.

Here is an article along the lines of what I posted earlier.

Could always be manly and give it a squirt of WD-40 ! hehe, that might be interesting.

WD-40 has some strange qualities. A friend of ours had a really painful shoulder issue a few years ago.

He went to the doctor, a couple of times, and they told him there was little to do except take pain meds or possible surgery. He got desperate and one day he was working with WD-40 and decided why the hell not. He sprayed his shoulder with it, a couple of times a day for about 3 days and his paid went away and has never come back.

I understand the makers of WD-40 refuse to address the use for that purpose. Something about medical restrictions.

I am guessing you still have to rinse the blade... I've got a beard like an Alpine forest and my blade gums up on every swipe of a 1-day beard.

Good excuse to keep an air compressor in your bathroom, I guess. "But honey! Think of the money we'll save on razor blades! Pass me the gasoline, will ya?"

The mineral oil seems like it would work. I am going to buy some, try it out. Having to shave for work (I work at a refinery making glorious gasoline!!) means I go through way to many blades. It's not cheap, nor is it painless when the blades have 3 or more shaves.

If you are using multi blades, a quick rinse w/ water prior to use does not ! get the mineral oil out and it will clog easily.

I drip a tiny amount of alcahol to disperse the mineral oil
