Ron Christensen Sr. just might have the solution to making shaving simpler.
Not only does Christensen, 63, think his product, Revolt, can increase the life of razor blades, but he also thinks it can give a smoother shave. "It will basically get rid of the need of 95 percent of razor blades out there," Christensen said. Christensen received a U.S. patent for Revolt in July. Fed up with buying razor blades nearly every trip to the store, Christensen, a mechanical engineer, began exploring ways to increase the life of blades in 2003. Through his research, he found water was causing blades to dull and rust. If he could remove the use of water, he could extend the life of the blades. Revolt Lubricating Liquid, a solution of mineral oils, aloe vera and vitamin E, is used to store razors and spare blades in. Revolt Shaving Solution, made of similar substances, replaces shaving cream. It does not require water to use. A two-ounce bottle of the lubricating liquid sells for $9.99. Because the solution does not contain water it does not evaporate and only a small amount is needed to cover the razor blades. An eight-ounce bottle of the shaving solution sells for $9.99. Although he has just received the patent, Christensen has sold the products in his store, Game Day Iowa, 2500 Corridor Way, for about three years. He's had customers get more than 300 shaves per blade using the products. Christensen retires his own blade after 366 shaves. Before Revolt, he was retiring blades after five to seven shaves. Blades last even longer with finer hair. "Women are getting five, six hundred shaves," Christensen said. "It's designed for men, but it works a lot better for women." In addition to increasing the life of razor blades, the product reduces irritation and redness. "By shaving without using water, your skin is not exposed to the impurities in water that cause infections and dry skin," Christensen said. "All of the razor burn and irritation goes and stays away." Christensen estimates that he has sold about 1,000 kits a year in the store. With the patent in hand, he is working to expand Revolt to national stores. He also is working with military buyers. "The patent gives us protection so other people can't develop the products," Christensen said. "It also helps with licensing the product." Revolt currently is manufactured in New Jersey. Christensen plans to start a business locally to distribute the product once sales are booked with national stores. Bob Gillispie of Coralville is a fan of the product. He began using Revolt at a friend's urging two years ago. "I think it is awesome," Gillispie, 44, said. "I have used one cartridge for the past 14 to 15 months." Someone try this and let us know the skinny Edit * Christensen currently is selling Revolt Lubricating Liquid, a solution to store razors and spare blades in, and Revolt Shaving Solution, a product that replaces shaving cream. • Information: Call ( 319 )338-3133 |

God I hope this works. I was just complaining this morning that nothing does anything more than 2-3 times on my face. Not a real blue-beard or anything but I get "11am shadow" instead of the traditional 5'oclock.
Clarke Howard (sp?) mentioned something on one of his shows that supposedly extended blade life but I can't find anything on it for some reason. |

Didn't someone recommend shaving with baby oil on here a number of years ago?

Hmmmm.....I'd be willing to try it. I currently use a 30 year old schick injector. The blades last about 2 months or so. I buy $25 worth of blades every couple of years. It works better than anything else I have ever tried (from straight to double to one, two, three, four, five blades)
But I don't know if I could give up my olde fashioned glycerine shaving cream and my silvertip badger brush. ______________________________________________________________________ "A handgun is not there to strap on when you think it might be needed. I am not selling it , I may have to give it a try though.
( I think he was kidding about the link ) I use twin blades, and it kills me to know that I pay .44 cents a piece and that they only cost 2.8 cents to make, package ship and sell. |

I'll be watching the store shelves closely for this product - anything that keeps me from having to spend big $$$$ on Mach 3 razors - they are way expensive

I heard long ago that just leaving the blades exposed to air after shaving wears them out faster. Storing in liquid makes them last longer.
No idea if any of it is true, or exactly why. |

You will not likely see this on store shelves. Anything that reduces the replacement frequebcy of a consumable will net the store less revenue. From my experience, stores will blacklist it until they have no other choice. Building a better mousetrap is no guarantee of profit anymore... P230 SP2340 P220 Sport so far... |

In another thread, someone recommended a shaving oil sold by Wal-Mart. I tried some but it had a strange effect on me. It was made in Cuero, TX. They raise a lot of turkeys in Cuero so I figure, the stuff was some sort of turkey oil. Had to give up using it though because it had a strange affect on me. Just couldn't keep myself from sneaking peeks at all those lovely frozen turkeys at Kroegers.

This stuff would be amazing for soldiers in the field if it works as advertised.

If this really works I'm very interested. I hate spending money on razor blades.
