Incredibly irresponsible of the parents but, handled well by both school and LE authorities.

Maybe Jim is having some influence on the sanity of his neighbor folk!

Best regards,

Tom

Sounds like how things used to be. No SWAT team, no school lockdown, no extensive media coverage. Just responsible school officials and LE dealing with an incredibly careless parent. Nice to see.

Oldie but a goodie. Well not so old. Bill Whittle makes the trip from California to Texas for Thanksgiving. Nice stuff in it, retelling some of what makes Texas a great place to live, contrasting that to his years living in Cali.

NEW BRAUNFELS - An eight-year-old girl at New Braunfels County Line Elementary School brought a loaded handgun to school Tuesday morning.

According to police, the girl found the loaded handgun when she opened her bag to start the school day. The student immediately told her teacher, who took the bag with the gun and turned it into campus administration.

The New Braunfels Police Department was notified and investigated the incident. Police believe the girl did not know that the gun was in the bag.

After talking to the student's parent, the parent took full responsibility saying the gun was inadvertently left in the bag after a recent move.

The parent was issued a citation for making a Firearm Accessible to a Child (Class C Misdemeanor).

Police said that the gun was never displayed and students were likely unaware that it was ever on campus.

NBPD would like to caution all gun owners about the seriousness of keeping firearms secured and away from children.

Wow, that is BREATHTAKINGLY irresponsible. . .

How on Earth did a loaded handgun end up in a child's bag? I just can't understand this. I know where EVERY single one of my firearms is at all times; along with their state (unloaded, loaded, magazine in, round chambered, etc).

If it really WAS negligence, then this just emphasizes the point that 'gun bags' should be separate and distinct from ANY other kind of bag - airline carry-on bag, school bag, work bag, etc.
