Was driving back from Tampa last Friday and came upon this scene at the intersection of Rte. 54 and Chancey Road.

Pilot and passenger both survived. Passenger with minor injuries, pilot refused treatment and stayed at the scene.

"I vowed to myself to fight against evil more completely and more wholeheartedly than I ever did before. . . . That’s the only way to pay back part of that vast debt, to live up to and try to fulfill that tremendous obligation."

Alfred Hornik, Sunday, December 2, 1945 to his family, on his continuing duty to others for surviving WW II.

Another advantage of low and slow!

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

Authorities say a 1942 Boeing Stearman single-engine aircraft collided with a power line while trying to land during an engine failure or malfunction.

The landing gear reportedly struck the line causing the aircraft to cartwheel and crash.

I've both flown and rebuilt Stearmans. Had a friend once walk away from a Stearman crash resulting in the a/c total destruction... I was the first to arrive on scene and I found him standing beside the wreckage, with a small cut on his forehead. The first thing he said to me... "The poor airplane, that poor airplane".

Stearmans we're built as one of the primary trainers of WW II, and knowing they were going to be subject to abuse from student pilots they built them tough. Having said that, I've lost my share of friends in Stearman accidents as well.

Luckily many Stearmans were produced in WW II and therefore parts are subjectively more available...but with each passing year parts are increasingly difficult to find.

Sure hate to see the old girl busted up like that...but glad to see passenger and pilot safe. If you gotta wreck an old plane and want to walk away from it...that's the plane to do it from.
