We all know the famous quote "War is the continuation of politics by other means."

Does that mean the converse is true also; basically “politics is war by peaceful means”?

The more I think about it, that makes sense. Our political enemies (especially the new trend of “Democratic socialist”) want to radically change our country, re-distribute our wealth & possessions, replace middle class folks with immigrants, & alter the political landscape (impeach Trump, take over healthcare, ban citizens from owning firearms, etc). If that’s not war, I don’t know what is.

Thoughts?

I think the converse is a bit of a stretch, we have many varied goals in politics dealing with everyone from allies to neutral countries to potential enemies.

The elements of national power are DIME-Diplomatic, Information, Military, and Economic. They get wielded in different combinations and amounts based on the goal and ever-changing landscape.

Take just the border wall issue: We have the Trump admin using Information; to the American people and Mexico, Military; physically on the border in support, Economic; both through the attempts at funding, the threats to close the border, and the NAFTA re-negotiate and Diplomatic; ongoing throughout at multiple levels.

Sometimes I think there is a war going on and only one side knows it.

One side wants to convince opponents by civilized argument using facts and reason.

The other side wants opponents “disappeared” and has been working towards that goal for over 70 years.

I didnt mean international politics, more domestic politics, in particular, voting in general elections. There are 2 totally divergent sides voting against each other, & 1 group in particular wants to change our country, take people’s money & give buncha free stuff to other people.

The international politics of the 2 sides are vastly different also.

Yes. The goal is to force your will upon the enemy. So either be a victim or a warrior.
