Actually, it gets pretty boring after the initial assessment of the issue. Feel free to fast forward to the last few minutes.

I keep wondering why they didn’t build a platform to support the front end of the helo while they repaired it. I’ve seen it done a few times when the landing gear gets stuck. Maybe they didn’t have the luxury of time or materials to do so. Regardless that pilot was able to hold an impressive hover long enough for them to get the job done.

That happened in Norfolk, Va. The big blue crane in the background is one of the heavy cranes at Newport News Shipbuilding across the harbor.

My brother was a line captain and he said this occurred a lot. They trained for this often.

I would have said plus youthful foolishness, but I do like that yours denotes more respect, as I do not wish to disrespect them in any way.

If I were in charge at that site, I'd have had them set it down on the nose and we'll fix it later. The way fed dollars are wasted, I'd rather a few hundred $k spent on sheet metal than on survivor benefits for a young American or three lost needlessly.

Outstanding work! The rotor blast from a 53 is no joke. They are beasts of a machine.
