My daughter met some Kuwaitees (I have no idea if I spelled that correctly) a few years ago. The usually spend their summers in Houston. They are extremely grateful forBush and the Americans keeping Iraq at bay during the first Gulf War. They have expressed their condolences to him on Facebook, they are more respectful than many Americans.

He was in college after WWII with my first scoutmaster and often had dinner at my scoutmasters home back in the late 70’s and early 80’s. I had the honor to dine with them several times. I also had the great honor to be in charge of the Eagle Scouts acting as door escorts for dignitaries at Reagan’s second inaugural ball at the Washington Hilton. Both G. W. Bush and Barbara recognized me and she had me escort her into the ball from their limo. Truly a classy couple that will be missed.

GHWB was shot down during an attack on the island of Chichi Jima off Japan. From Wikipedia:

RIP Mr. President

GHWB is the first President I had the privilege of voting for. Despite the areas where I disagree with him, He was a good President and I was never not proud of him being our President. I cannot say the same about his immediate successor.

This morning's anecdote of 41's passing that was sentinel of the man - his best friend Sec. James Baker was with him in his last hours, with his wife Susan. Baker's wife put her hand on his forehead and said "We love you Jefe," and 41 replied "You better hurry!" I was honored to accompany 41 and Barbara on a tour of our little German outpost when the Wall came down as sort of an unofficial photographer, and never met anyone, President or otherwise, who showed as much compassion, personal regard or interest in the troops he commanded. I admired him as my Commander-In-Chief, respected him as a President, and loved him as a comrade in arms. A great man has passed.

I always had the utmost respect for this man. He carried himself and the office with dignity, respect, and made solid decisions. President Bush is what I considered a moderate and I wish we had more like him. May he Rest In Peace, and condolences to his family. A great President and a man many could learn from.

It appears my office (and most of the govt. in DC) will be closed Wednesday for services. I attended his inauguration, weather permitting I'll make into DC and find a spot along the motorcade route to the National Cathedral.

I think your admiration of Perot may have been misplaced. After the election, it was revealed that Clintoon paid Perot to run, drop out when he gained too much popularity, then jump back in to ensure the Republican vote would be split.

I did not always agree with his political philosophy but I have a great deal of respect for him putting his ass on the line for our country during WWII. RIP president Bush.

I respect the office not necessarily the man.

Care to share the evidence that backs up that claim? Perot had MUCH more money than Clinton in '92, and didn't need to take a payoff from Clinton.

Bush family spokesman Jim McGrath on Sunday night honored the service dog who accompanied George H.W. Bush during the former president's final months.

“Mission complete,” McGrath tweeted, showing Sully the dog. Sully's Instagram page showed the same photo.

Sully, a yellow Labrador retriever, became Bush’s new service dog in June. Sully had been trained by America’s VetDogs, a nonprofit that provides service dogs.

Bush aide Evan Sisley, at the time, said the dog can open doors, pick up items and summon help, but that “more than anything else the dog will be a wonderful companion.”

George H.W. Bush's burial is set for Thursday at the Bush Library Center.

The body of the former president, who died Friday at age 94, is to be transported by a motorcade Monday morning from a Houston funeral home to Ellington Field Joint Reserve Base, a Texas Air National Guard base. The casket will be loaded onto a plane and flown to Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, according to officials.
