German election. Angela Merkel wins reelection
Anyone following the election in Germany? I'm reading online that Merkel was reelected. Looks like the AFD also had a good night.

Well then I guess the German people are OK with the self destruction of their country.

Not exactly. There are protests because for the first time in 60 years a "far right/nationalist" party also won big. Big Grin I don't think tonight's results are bad all things considered.

As long as that witch is in power, it is BAD.

We have family and friends over there, and they are all pissed off about the shit that witch continues to pull. Like, according to some figures, 2 million illegals inside the country, being supported by the tax paying citizens.

Not to mention private homes being essentially seized to house the illegals.

And, as I recall from some time ago, those illegals get a very nice monetary package every month for something like 2 years.

CNN doesn't seem all that happy. I take CNN's reaction as good news for Germany.

Realistically the result could have been much worse.

NEIN NEIN NEIIIIN !!!!

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

we will see. In order to achieve something, they need coaltion Partners and I doubt AfD will find any partners soon.
Without Partners there will be no politcal success. Without success they will be gone.

Ever since 2010 Merkel shut down Germany's nuclear reactors, and tried to replace that electricity with renewables. Price tripled and 600,000 German households had their power shut off due to lack of payment. I don't see how any politician could survive that. Who was running against her? Maybe they are much worse. I don't know.

They have the same pathetic choices in leadership the rest of the alleged democratic people have in other alleged democracies.

The choice are:

Fast jet to serfdom (socialists)
Slow leisurely train ride to serfdom (republicans)

It only stands to reason that where there's sacrifice, there's someone collecting the sacrificial offerings. Where there's service, there is someone being served. The man who speaks to you of sacrifice is speaking of slaves and masters, and intends to be the master.

Not true.

Every party has it´s candidate. The reason These candidates have not been chosen is probably because the cabinets dont see These candidates as capable or experienced enough.

It's not correct to say that "Merkel won the election". Her party, the CDU/CSU, got about 32%, a plurality; but the Social Democrats (SPD), which has been in coalition with the CDU, has announced it will go into opposition, not be part of the Grand Coalition; AND? the SPD lost a lost of support, I think they got 20.8%, their poorest showing in decades.
That leaves the Alternative for Deutschland (AfD) anti-Islam, anti-immigrant party in third place with 13%. Unfortunately, all the other parties are saying they will not be part of a coalition with AfD.
That means Merkel will have to form a coalition with the Freie Deutsche Partei (FDP), the "liberals", that is classical liberals; and another party, probably the Greens, who want to close nuclear reactors and end fossil fuel power plants.
I have read that it may take months to form a coalition government.
In Germany a party has to cross a 5% threshold to have seats in the Bundestag, the parliament. AfD has done this for the first time, and having 13% is substantially larger than expected.

It MAY mean that Merkel has to shift to the right to respond to the very real concerns raised by the AfD. In my opinion they should not be shunned but should be part of the ruling coalition, but it seems that's very unlikely to happen.

The political elite is at least as politically correct in Germany as in the US.

Merkel got re-elected, but she lost the support she had in the government. Life just got very difficult for her continuing to do what she has.

I'm going to send an email to an friend in Germany (Full bird Col in Air Force reserve) and get his take on the results.

AfD got 13 pct. AfD did extremely well in the former communist occupied eastern Germany. AfD took 1st or 2nd place in most of the areas there.

People there are as fed up as they are here.

Merkle has 2 choices;

Grand Coalition with the SPD - so the establishment tried to keep control.

Link up with FDP and AfD.

BTW - AfD took 2nd place in votes won, in Merkel's home area in the east.

The problem seems to be that they have so damned many political parties that every gubbermint is comprised of coalitions of several smaller parties. And given the necessity to keep so many different "partners" happy, not much of importance actually gets done.

They spend all their time working on "coalition partners" to keep the gubbermint together.

Do not recall how many parties they actually have but IIRC there must be at least 4-5.

By the time they get an agreement, they have compromised so much that not much workable remains.

Well Germany could invade France and tap into their Nuclear power grid.
