I have driven, in the course of my work, Jeep Wranglers, Dodge Chargers and Grand Caravans with the Pentastar (as it is called) engine, but not much newer than ~2015. I like it in those vehicles. It is a pretty reliable, smooth and "peppy" engine, but wants (and likes) to be revved up. You want low-end torque when pulling a boat and trailer up a steep, slippery launching ramp.

Too old to run,
too mean to quit!

AIR my Dodge Dakota (way back about when) had a V6 in it, had a Snow Plow prep package, etc etc.

Ran like a champ. loved it. Hated to get rid of it, but it started nickel diming us to death. Towed boats, hauled trailers full of dirt and stone, etc. Never had a problem until was about 8 or 9 years old. Then it was more corrosion from road salt than anything else.

That V6 is a pretty good one, good power with more power than most V8's of yesteryear.

It will absolutely pull a 2000 lb boat and trailer no problem.

Yes, its enough engine for your needs.

In years past, the V6 got almost the exact same fuel mileage as the V8 engines, so it made no real sense to buy a V6. I don't know if that rings true in 2018 or not, but look into it.

How is the gas mileage on this? I am leaning toward another Ram 1500 with a hemi, but if there is a "real world" improvement in mileage with this Eco boost, I might give it a try.
