My firstborn will be married February 18, 2018. It will be a special day for many reasons. But let me tell you, I need a drink. YouTube songs about fathers and daughters are making me cry non-stop. I can't imagine what I will feel when it is actually happening on the dance floor.

That's a fantastic day for it. It is my anniversary too - also part of my username - and we're about to celebrate 21 years of wedded bliss.

Well, maybe not bliss, but definitely wedded something. Wink

eta: know what you mean about daddy/daughter songs too - they can tug the old heartstrings. "I loved her first" by Heartland would be my choice.

I introduced both my kids to the music I like, my daughter really took to Steve Earle. She has seen him live several times and the two of us flew to Nashville two years ago to see him at City Winery. We danced to one of his songs at her wedding in 2010.

It makes me smile to see your thread.

"Daughters" by John Mayer
"Little Miss Magic" by Jimmy Buffett
"Tiny Dancer" by Elton John
"Landslide" by Fleetwood Mac (Stevie Nicks)

I don’t think there is anything more of a tear jerker than Sunrise Sunset from Fiddler on the Roof and spot on with your situation.

Edited to add that it’s a good waltz too.

Pick something slow with easy steps, because you'll be a wreck by the time you get to the dance.

For our wedding, my wife hired a singer chick and a dude with a guitar from a local folk band to sing an awesome acoustic version of Guns n' Roses "Sweet Child 'o Mine". It was a total surprise to him and turned out beautifully.

Sorta like this, but with a woman singing

I chose "Changes" sung by Kelly and Ozzy Osbourne for my daughters wedding.

First, congrats. Second, I HATED the dance song choices they offered. Ended up, she was kind and opted not to do "I loved her first" or "Butterfly Kisses." Instead, we went with a Sinatra song that we would "dance" to (meaning I would carry her around as I danced). Might have still made my eyes water up a bit.

Enjoy the time between now and then, it's a sweet time to reflect and love on her some more. And it'll go by in a flash.

Congrats! I don't have any advise, but imagine I'd be feeling pretty much the same as you when that day comes.

I didn’t really convey this in my post above, but I tend to think your daughter should pick the song. It’s her wedding, IMO the song should be the one that makes HER think of you, not the other way around. For what it’s worth.

My daughter and I used to sing Bill Joel all the time growing up. We'd get into the truck to go somewhere and she'd demand to hear her favorites. We'd sing together...

At her wedding we danced to the above...

Best movement ever...
