Why do the extreme left congregate on the coasts? How did San Francisco become the gay capital?

What do the extreme left do to protect the country - despite social and political leanings, do they actually help protect the constitution and country by joining the military? Law enforcement? Border Patrol / ICE?

Of what use are the left to this country? Do they have any utility in defense of this country?

As with other great societies of history, the Left arises as a result of prosperity. Think of it like this: The more you indulge a child, the more you give him, the less satisfied he will be, and the more disdain he will have for all of the blessings in his life.

How many "antifa" member ever stop to think how fortunate they are to live in a society where they never have even known hunger? How many of them ever compare the incredible affluence of their own lives with the majority of lives throughout the world? No, those spoiled rotten children have always had the best of everything - lives that are more comfortable than the kings' and queens' lives of societies of the past. Yet, there's NEVER any gratitude - only grumbling and complaining about imagined offenses.

Americans never thought this way when life was hard. When owning something required hard work, diligence and self discipline, people actually appreciated the fact that they had opportunity to make their lives better if they would only work hard and make responsible decisions. But, now that children are incredibly over indulged by their parents, they are nothing but dissatisfied and consumed with complaints. It's human nature.

I never fully appreciated the fact that I was in possession of all 5 of my senses until I lost my sight. How many people wake up every day, open their eyes, and literally have a heart full of gratitude when they realize they can see everything in their bedroom clearly? It's just not natural to appreciate things you've always had - they're just taken for granted. But, if you lose any of those things you've always taken for granted and then get it back... THEN, you realize how precious things and situations really are.

Leftists are spoiled rotten children who have absolutely no idea how fortunate they are to be living in a country that was founded by free market capitalists. If and when they succeed in changing the country into a socialist one, THEN they will realize how great they had it. Before they threw it all away.

I found what you said riveting.

That was excellent Synthplayer. You completely nailed it. Perfectly said. I am going to save that post for future discussions with those on the left if you don't mind.

I remember my uncle once telling us back in the '60s "The US Navy Pacific Fleet would muster out queer sailors in San Francisco". He served during WWI and WWII in the Pacific with the US Navy. He said those mustered out were afraid of going back home because of the stigma attached to why they were mustered out. He said many chose to remain in San Francisco.

I heard they were sucked in to it.

The West was, largely libertarian, don't push your issues and we won't push back. Neighborhoods like the Castro, had a concentration of gays, where most SF residents regarded as a no-go zone, it was in the center of the city so, nobody cared. As communication and travel became easier in post-WWII, word spread that there was a large neighborhood in a major city where gays lived and nobody bothered them...and the weather was favorable. This also applied to areas in Los Angeles and Seattle. Soon this neighborhood grew to be political and used it's clout to start pushing it's agenda, originally anti-discrimination laws, today progressive/socialist policies. Meanwhile, long-time residents moved out of the city to the new growing suburbs, eventually leaving the city to what was left; today it's conservatives leaving California.

Today, what you have is a city that is split between it's gay/progressive residents who want to eschew the establishment and a Asian population that is more focused with adapting to the country, getting ahead and prospering over participating in the political process.

Leftism as an ideology is destructive. It breeds contempt and division. Some Leftists have defended the country. Some have, and do serve. Some Leftists defend the parts of the constitution that they agree with and ignore the rest while working to edit them out in the future. I think Leftists love the country as they dream it to be. Their window dressing principles are seductive but ultimately fail because liberty and prosperity are sacrificed to achieve them. Leftism does not square with reality nor human nature so to make it fit, reality must be altered and human nature forced or at least ignored. Can anyone point to me a society based on Leftist principles that also remained free and enduring?

The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt.
