Chelsea Manning, a transgender former Army intelligence analyst convicted of leaking classified documents, has filed to run for the U.S. Senate.

The Washington Post first reported Saturday that Manning has filed to run in Maryland for the seat of Democratic Sen. Ben Cardin.

The Federal Election Commission website shows a Jan. 11 filing for “Chelsea Manning for U.S. Senate” with the party affiliation registered as Democrat -- suggesting a primary challenge for Cardin.

Manning, then known as Bradley Manning, was arrested in 2010 and convicted in 2013 of leaking a trove of sensitive documents to WikiLeaks. Manning’s sentence was controversially commuted by President Barack Obama in 2017 after Manning had served seven years of a 35-year sentence.

Since leaving prison, Manning has become known for controversial tweets, often accompanied with a series of emojis and the hashtag #WeGotThis. Last week, Manning tweeted out the message “f---k the police” on Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, along with the hashtag #DisarmThePolice

Manning has also referred to Immigration and Customs Enforcement as “literally the new gestapo.”

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

Well now, that's sure to stir up some interest (votes) from the Left.

As a Democrat I will support her/him, this shows that the Democrat Party is the real party of change. Even she/him would be better then what we have sent to the Senate, Cardin is super anti-gun. She/He would good on the Senate Intelligence Committee, after all she/him has experience. Just Kidding. Chris

No, an idiot that should have faced a firing squad. A traitor freed from justice by a traitor.

You fixed it for me. Sadly I think firing squad has been off the table for a while in our wet paperbag of a society. Commit treason? No biggie, write a book and run for office.

I can't remember if I posted this, but here is an account of Bradley/Chelsea when in Army Basic Combat Training:

https://americanmilitarynews.c...ry-you-havent-heard/

Sort of long to cut and paste, but here is the first paragraph:

January 2017 – as one of his final acts in office, President Obama yesterday commuted the 35-year prison sentence of Chelsea Manning down to just four years with a scheduled release date of 17 May 2017. For supporters, it must have been an unbelievable victory, and for her critics, an outrage. For those that have known her, there’s an added dimension of anecdotes, personal interactions, and concrete memories of her conduct, all of which color the quality of that commutation. She is a hero to some, a traitor to others. Either she was an idealistic do-gooder who was intent on revealing state-sponsored human rights violations while exposing the darkest corners of the U.S. Government, or she was a coward suffering delusions of grandeur who invented enemies to blame, lashed out at her own country, and revealed nothing but her own self-sponsored narcissism. Which one is accurate? Let me tell you a story.

It gets worse. My first thought was "soft landing, flaps down". When your immediate reaction is to make a really bad joke, well, it's because there've been too many really bad jokes like Bradley managing to get elected to the Senate over the past several years.
