It’s a gun range calling for more gun control. I suspect they’d be happy to offer us commoners the “high cap experience “ after a ban.

I think most people on this forum are against more stringent gun control laws. Especially when a great number on the books have been ineffective and selectively enforced.

It pisses me off when someone wants to tell me I can't buy a rifle due to cosmetic features while at the same time releasing a convicted felon in possession of a gun after six months.

Personally I would prefer that criminals with guns, or those that use guns in the commission of a crime face the brunt of the law, rather than you or me.

It was the sheriff who said that. I highly doubt it was pure speculation.
Really? Well, here's what he said :

Clark County, Nev., Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said Wednesday that it was only logical to “make the assumption” that Stephen Paddock had “some help at some point” in pulling off Sunday's massacre. .

Really? You're saying that this vague statement that speaks of probabilities is an indication that the sheriff "knows something"?
Is there some other statement he's made with regards to this, because if you're telling us that the above statement indicates that the sherrif knows something, I'd have to say that you're wrong.

I don't understand the persistence on this-- as if it is not within the realm of possibility that he was not just a lone crazy man..... Like that is not even possible??
Show me some evidence- not speculation, not assumptions, not fantasy scenarios played out in one's head. Show me some actual evidence.

If you look back in the thread, I predicted that there would be no suicide note. It turns out that he did not leave a note. We're not going to find an answer about his motivations that satisy us. He wasn't radicalized and he wasn't some Trump-hating leftist. What he was, was a crazy man.

I know, that's boring. Boring, boring, boring. In the face of the lack of any evidence of an accomplice or some overt political or ideological motive, let's make up fabulous stories from the pathetic scraps of information we have. Y'see, whatever we manage to find out about the guy- well, it's significant to the shooting. Right? Because that's the way life works, doesn't it?

If I'm trying to find your motivation for some act you've committed and I walk past your house and find a scrap pf newspaper in your yard, well, by God, that's evidence! Isn't it? Yes, simply because I managed to find it, that scrap is automatically significant to my investigation.

That's what we're doing with this- of the scant knowledge we have of this guy, it's all significant to his motives for the shootings by the very fact that we have this information, and that's just silly.

None of this is complicated. He obviously practiced with the guns to know they get hot and malfunction after a while (hence multiple) but I'm sure most of us know this.

Exactly. The Sheriff seemed to think that because of all the weapons and tannerite, he must've had help getting it in the room or something. Over a course of a few days, I could easily do all of that by myself. He said he must've been a supervillian to do all that by himself. Roll Eyes

I wasn't impressed by that news conference.

And oh yes, the sherrif said that the guy "spent decades" amassing his gun collection. He purchased his first firearm in 1982. He owned 40-something firearms and purchased 75% of those guns in the last year or so of his life.

Now, come on. Yes, 1982 was decades ago, but come on. We're playing dramatic word games.

What the Sherrif said seems to be intended for effect, because he has to know the facts, and he's not being honest. He's making it sound like this guy spent the last 35 years stockpiling weapons, and that is simply not true.

What does the sherrif know about the shooter's motives? About as much as you do, believe it or not. But hey, he's the sherrif, so he must know something and we're sticking cameras and microphones in his face, so he has to say something, and this is what we get- distortions.

I wasn't aware of that, but based upon the few comments I've seen from the guy, I cannot say that I am surprised.

Given the nature of his remarks regarding this incident, I'll take everything he says with a grain of salt.

Agreed.

It’s way too easy to take your personal experiences and assume they’re normal. For example, most hotel guests bring all of their luggage to their room one time immediately after check in. However, it doesn’t take a super villain to avoid suspicion by spreading it out over 4 days especially if the person lives an hour away.

Here is another example. As someone who is a high tier frequent flyer that spends a lot of nights in hotel rooms I wondered how he determined that room (high enough to shoot over stage) and got it? I certainly could not have but I both kept my mouth shut and didn’t make posts about it. Then, as the week goes on his gambling comes out, and he is playing $1000 per hand poker (casinos will give good comps for that) and has spent a lot of time in that casino. Big difference between a faceless guy with a certain color membership card getting that room versus a casino rat who knows people and has room view knowledge acquired over time. Certainly not a super villain and I’m glad I didn’t spew any conjectures virtually or in person.

All we get is double talk from elected officials, with the probable exception of President Trump.

Marilou Danley:

The 62-year-old said in a statement read by her lawyer that Paddock had sent her to see family in her native Philippines weeks earlier, and she was still overseas at the time of the attack. She said he wired her money so she could buy a house for her family , and she was initially pleased but later feared it was a way to break up with her.

Question regarding an immediate response to this type of event. I believe most of us would agree that our CCW's wouldn't be effective and even having Security post Snipers wouldn't work.
I believe many SWAT teams have incorporated the use of "robots" to assist in bomb type situations etc...
So, I got to thinking. Would it be practical to take advantage of the evolving Drone technology as a response to this type event? They could be deployed with lethal or non lethal weapons such as an incapacitating gas. Kind of thinking out loud here but it seems to me it could be very effective.

The attacker reportedly booked two upper floor hotel rooms at the Blackstone Hotel overlooking the downtown Chicago "Lollapalooza" music festival back at the beginning of August. https://www.usatoday.com/story...o-idea-wh/734824001/

Combine that with another report that he booked rooms at the Ogden Hotel in Vegas overlooking the "Life is Beautiful" music festival a couple weeks ago. http://www.businessinsider.com...lice-confirm-2017-10

If both reports are accurate, these seems to show that he had been planning an attack for at least a couple months, and it appears that this "Route 91" country festival wasn't his specific target. Instead, he was merely targeting any large urban outdoor music festival with tall hotels overlooking it. He just finally followed through with his plan at this particular event.
