This isn’t the first film shot on an iPhone 7 Plus but it’s the first to get a wide release. You can definitely tell that the camera is not a movie camera but still im inpressed. Especially since most of the film takes place in a dark mental hospital.

Looks like it was shot in a higher frame rate too. If he shot it in 4k 24fps it would probably look a lot more cinematic, but I'm sure he was going for the more cell phone look.

Why? The trailer was hard to watch due to lack of dynamic range... I don't think it adds anything to the movie to shoot it like that...

It's probably something similar to what would happen if you handed Renoir a crayon. The result would still be a masterpiece.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Why? Cause it's cheaper? I can certainly tell if that's the purpose.

Typical, more acceptance of trendy and cool at the expense of quality. 'Cause it's high tech, man. Roll Eyes

At first I thought that too, that they were working with an ultra-low budget...

But there are more than a few cameras out there that take better video than an iPhone 7 for about the same or less cost.

I think part of it is the intimacy of it. He shot the entire movie himself with a minimal crew. I’m sure some of it was also just to see if he could. I think that’s it’s encouraging for aspiring filmmakers. There was a time when people like Kevin Smith financed indie movies with credit cards and got into serious debt. I’m sure for them it’s nice to know you can put out a decent product for very little cash.

I also think he put this movie out himself without going with a major distribution company so marketing and such is all on his production company. Making it for as cheap as possible is likely part of the algorithm. The more the studios are involved often the more the product or the vision of the filmmaker is degraded. I’m sure the freedom is nice.

OH GREAT, lets lower the bar some more on quality and craftsmanship!

From watching the trailer I don't see any big artistic edge to the way it was filmed.

Hah!

I'll reserve judgment on whether this works as a technique until I see the film.

looks like the same ol crazy person film and the phone doesn't add anything to the storytelling that I can see from the trailer.
