So I guess the experts here weren't far off.

I'll leave my comments at that, as to not further disparage the guy you used to know - the term friend no longer applies.

Thank you for the update, and I'm sorry about your friend. It is hard to ever know the truth about what people do in their private lives. Unfortunately there's not much you can do now.

Write him off, never talk to him again, he will get what he has coming to him in this life or the next.

The family is still friends, part of your church, and part of your community. Hopefully the term friend still applies to them. They will need your, the community's, and the churches help.

Don't know a thing about LDS folks. What happens next? Does she and the family become pariahs or are they helped by the church?

man, give a porn addict the benefit of the doubt and blam, he goes off the deep end.

the issue is that because the dopamine cycle demands novelty to achieve the 'high', if you will, it requires not just more porn, but nastier, kinkier, dirtier, more violent, etc. It is a progressive problem.

good luck to you and his family

Take comfort in the fact that if you had been right and the others wrong, they would have come back here and admitted their mistakes.

Right. Roll Eyes

I doubt they feel the need for any apology, though; nothing can diminish that self-righteous glow of being right about someone else’s deficiencies.

And, let me also say that I and this friend who asked for help are both Mormon and we belong to the same congregation.
Well, things have escalalated since March 1st when I talked to him. His workplace IT guys seemed to have found lots of pornographic images stored in a work laptop owned by the company. About half the images were those involving underage kids.
So, the local police are involved and he has been under arrest since early Friday morning. It is out of our hands, and he has to deal with law enforcement now.
Thank you guys for the help, the links both to LDS sites and non-LDS sites is very helpful.
Now all I can do is pray for my friend, hope he learns that there are consequences for his actions, and that he deals with the incarceration that is inevitably follow.

Oh snap, damn. That is very disheartening. There are many loosers in this, and the damages will be far reaching.

I re-read the entire thread and I did not see any post that assumed the person must be viewing child porn. The OP came here looking for advice and people gave it to him. One piece of that advice, in this particular instance, was that this man might be watching child porn. Turns out he was. I can't imagine anyone is happy about that fact.

For those who assumed he was not watching child porn, I certainly don't think an apology is owed. You had every right to assume he was not a criminal. People are innocent until proven guilty.

Just because someone opens the OP's eyes to all of the possibilities doesn't mean they want to be right, or are happy to be right.

I was listening to a Joe Rogan podcast where he interviewed a woman who makes a TON of money humiliating men sexually online. I forget what she called herself... Humiliatrix or something. People pay for bizarre shit.
