I ran across that one and was thinking about it. I wonder how it compares to the U.S. Wings jackets.

I also like this one, since I'm not really a big fan of knit cuffs and waist on a jacket:

Just to sidetrack this thread slightly, I have a US Wings cowhide jacket that is several years old but I have been unable to get it to the point where it doesn't squeak when I move. It has made it so that I don't really wear it enough to get it broken in. Is there a good way to quiet it down and soften it up?

I own an A2 from US Wings which I'm not that keen on. It's far too stiff and smells like rubber.

I also have one from Roundtree & York, which I picked up from Dillards. I LOVE !! This jacket. It's an A2 "style" in distressed leather.

Just looked at the LL Bean ones following this post, and I must say I like the Navy type jacket.

Sorry for the second post but, I also picked up a second Roundtree & yourk black leather jacket which looks like a WWII luftwaffe pilots jacket. The leather is extremely fine quality, black. Spring sale had them for $125 reduced from $325 from Dillards.

Well, an interesting update. I purchased a jacket from US Wings - the weathered Indy jacket. I like the style, but just as Longbow stated, mine smells like rubber, too! It smells strongly like rubber innertubes. I can only guess it's from the distressing process?

Longbow - how long have you had yours and does it still smell like rubber? I'm sending mine back, since I've left it hanging in the garage for a week and it still smells.

Maybe it IS rubber. I've seen "leather" jackets that were made from synthetics.

I had one from USWings and had the same thing...smelled like rubber. I returned it and settled on this one from Orvis...and I absolutely love it.

You can find it here.

Makes a good backdrop for gun porn too! Smile

I have one from LL Bean that I have owned since winter 1989. I have worn it every year as my primary cool weather jacket and have also used it as a rain jacket and it still has virtually no wear on it. Even the cuffs and bottom ribbing are still perfect.

I don't think they can be beat.

Yeah, the issued jackets aren't the most comfortable plus they had basically no insulation. Mild Wx jackets or stylin' jackets at best.

check out a website for 'Wings' - they're a pilots supply store and they tend to have a good selection of clothing

I have an all leather flight jacket that ran me about $480 - very nice, very warm and wears well

+1 on US Wings. I've bought 2 A2's from them; the Cooper in horsehide is my favorite. Wears like iron. Takes a while to break one in, but after a couple of years the leather becomes buttery soft. Mine is about 10 years old.

+1! My W&G is horsehide. Mr. Ed didn't die in vain!

Willis & Geiger. They were one of the original WW II contractors. I could only afford a horsehide because they were, regrettably, going out of business.

They also made Navy jackets

If you want that "aged" look, there are many places that sell them, but the best looking ones I have seen were from U.S. Wings.
