I'm looking for a good leather Air Force type jacket. Kind of like the old WWII brown leather flight/bomber jackets. Don't want a hood or fur collar, just the leather kind.

Any suggestions on dealers, brands, etc. that are nice? (Not too nice, though... $$$)

Thanks.

Cooper is the best brand, they follow the original 1942 pattern.

My dad and I both have Cooper A2's. They are the real thing and worth the money. Cooper makes other nice jackets too.

Two sources here in Pensacola:

Wings of Gold is an aviation supply company catering to Navy aviator flight students (owner is a friend of mine). I got one there.http://www.flywings.com/default.htm

Naval Aviation Museum has them too. http://www.navalaviationmuseum.org/

I've got my father's WWII jacket. It's not in the best shape, but it tells a story.

If historical accuracy is paramount, nobody makes them like Gibson and Barnes. These are expensive, but like CurlyShuffle's father's jacket, it becomes an heirloom with a little care. Mine is a US Army Air Corps A-2 Mk 41 as issued in 1941, is almost 20 years old and is just beginning to develop a patina. BTW, it's gotta be horsehide with a 1 piece back or it's not an A-2 in my book.

SCHOTT Leather of NY also made the jacket for the military contract.

You can find some deals on Ebay if you are patient.

I've had mine for 25 years now, and it's gonna outlast me for sure.

I don't guess complete accuracy is that important. Just something similar is fine.

The U.S. Wings site has some nice stuff.

Thanks again.

I bought an Avirex 25 years ago. Very nice jacket, but don't know if they still make nice stuff.

I have a Willis and Geiger horsehide A2 as well as a Cooper Air Force issue cowhide A2. The real ones were made of all sorts of things (although I think most Navy flight jackets were goatskin). For price and quality I'd go with the Cooper. TIP: If it has side entry pockets it's NOT authentic.

My issued jacket is terrible, so I bought one from L L bean instead and sewed velcro on it. It's identical, just better leather and better fit/comfort.
