Yes, the same Paul Allen that looks for sunken ships, restores rare aircraft, & owns the Seahawks throws some pocket change to try to keep adults from buying guns.

SEATTLE (AP) -- Microsoft co-founder and Seattle Seahawks owner Paul Allen has donated $1 million to a campaign seeking to raise the age to purchase semi-automatic rifles from 18 to 21 in Washington state.

Allen made the announcement on Twitter Monday.

The Alliance for Gun Responsibility says Initiative 1639 also would create a background check system similar to the one required for handguns, require completion of a firearms safety course and create standards for safe gun storage.

The group's initiative effort comes after lawmakers in the Democratic-controlled Statehouse declined to bump the minimum age to buy semi-automatic weapons after the February mass shooting at a Florida high school.

The alliance needs roughly 260,000 petition signatures before the initiative can qualify for the 2018 ballot.

In 2014, Allen donated $500,000 to a successful campaign seeking to expand background checks on gun sales in the state.

Mad Mad Mad

I love visiting his collection at Paine Field, but why do all these billionaires, who no doubt employ armed security, feel the need to constantly throw money at Constitution-hating ideals?!?

How ironic that he was murdered by an axe wielding Patrick Bateman.

His business cards are lovely though...

Its Washington state which is only slightly less absurd that California. Who cares what they do to themselves.

I did that years ago. I've also noted, several times over the years, that all of Microsoft's founders were anti-gun. Actively so.

So you don't think this action will materially reduce gun violence in the state of Washington? Wink

Once they're done fucking us, they're coming for you.

They figured out that it's real hard to get anything done Federally, but if they just chip, chip, chip away at the local and state level, eventually they'll get what they want, which is civilian disarmament. Yeah, maybe you'll be fine, but one day it'll be your kids, or your grandkids.

Allen is not easily misguided. Nor Nick Hanauer, who also donated $1 million. The safety of schools and communities is their reasoning.

WA State I-1639 - the text it defines "semiautomatic assault rifles" as any semiautomatic rifle, including a tube magazine .22LR

WA State I-1639

Ballot Measure Summary This measure would require enhanced background checks, firearm training, and waiting periods before semiautomatic assault rifles may be purchased or delivered. It would impose age limitations on who may purchase or possess certain firearms, including prohibiting firearm purchases by persons under age 21. It would require certain secured firearm storage or trigger-locks, and criminalize certain firearm storage if it results in unauthorized use. It would enact other firearm-related requirements, including certain warnings, record keeping, and fees.

With this influx of funds and the commercials that will soon air ... the Initiative has the backing of the usual cronies in this State.

Fortunately, those of us who give a damn, are rallying as we are allowed to do ...

Ya think so? Just watch what happens this fall to a whole bunch of those politicos in Tallahassee who got behind the BS gun control changes they allowed through this year. Quite a few of these nitwits ended their political careers as Parkland will be way in the rearview by November...but Florida gun owners won't forget.
